Meet the AI workers who tell their friends and family to stay away from AI
AI workers said they distrust the models they work on because of a consistent emphasis on rapid turnaround time at the expense of quality. AI workers said they distrust the models they work on because of a consistent emphasis on rapid turnaround time at the expense of quality. K rista Pawloski remembers the single defining moment that shaped her opinion on the ethics of artificial intelligence . As an AI worker on Amazon Mechanical Turk - a marketplace that allows companies to hire workers to perform tasks like entering data or matching an AI prompt with its output - Pawloski spends her time moderating and assessing the quality of AI-generated text, images and videos, as well as some factchecking. Roughly two years ago, while working from home at her dining room table, she took up a job designating tweets as racist or not. When she was presented with a tweet that read "Listen to that mooncricket sing", she almost clicked on the "no" button before deciding to check the meaning of the word "mooncricket", which, to her surprise, was a racial slur against Black Americans.

The Best Chef's Knives of 2025. We Tested Nearly Two Dozen to Find Our Favorites
The chef's knife is the workhorse of the kitchen. We sliced, diced, and minced to find the best for every home chef. A Close Second Chef's Knife (Made From High-Carbon Stainless Steel) Zwilling Four Star 8-Inch Chef's Knife Not all knives are created equal, and a chef's knife is given that name for a reason. Like the proverbial dog to man, a chef needs their knife. Arguably the most important multipurpose tool you can find in a kitchen, it's the chef's main weapon--it can slice, dice, and chop ingredients with speed and precision. A chef's knife generally has a super-sharp end point and a curved, sloping edge. This curve is what makes the chef knife stand out, as it's designed to work with the natural rocking motion for quick chopping that also allows for finer cuts. With technology like ovens with cameras inside and AI-enabled refrigerators, the chef's knife remains the simple tool necessary for any kitchen.

14 moving images from the 2025 Nature Photographer of the Year awards
Breakthroughs, discoveries, and DIY tips sent every weekday. "A tender and poetic moment unfolds as a butterfly flutters gracefully beside a gorilla's face, its golden hues mirroring the warmth in the animal's eyes." That's how Nature Photographer of the Year Chairman Tin Man Lee artfully described the Animal Portrait category winner (seen above). "The contrast between the fragile insect and the powerful primate evokes a delicate balance between strength and gentleness. More than 24,000 entries from photographers in nearly 100 countries competed at this year's awards. From moments of brutality to tenderness, the contest beautifully showcases the stunning wildlife that calls Earth home. "As a photographer, I'm impulsive and never plan in advance what or how I'm going to photograph.

The Climate Impact of Owning a Dog
My dog contributes to climate change. I've been a vegetarian for over a decade. It's not because of my health, or because I dislike the taste of chicken or beef: It's a lifestyle choice I made because I wanted to reduce my impact on the planet. And yet, twice a day, every day, I lovingly scoop a cup of meat-based kibble into a bowl and set it down for my 50-pound rescue dog, a husky mix named Loki. Until recently, I hadn't devoted a huge amount of thought to that paradox.
