A lawsuit accusing Tesla of'false advertising' when marketing its Autopilot is making its way through the Santa Barbara Superior Court in California, even though the Elon Musk-run firm is disputing the claims. Judge Thomas Anderle ruled this week that the case of Alexandro and Iaian Filippini, two brothers who operate a Santa Barbara–based wealth management company, versus Tesla is allowed to proceed to its next phase. The ruling is due to the Filippini brothers presenting enough evidence to show fraud and that the firm violated the the Consumer Legal Remedies Act – this means a jury could soon hear the case. The lawsuit, filed in 2020, states Tesla misrepresented the system in the $120,000 Model S the pair purchased in 2016.
