Originally featured as a minigame in Project Gotham, this 80s-style twin-stick shooter was rebuilt as a standalone digital-only release, attracting a huge new fanbase. ODYSSEY: Open-World Quadrupeds Exploration and Manipulation for Long-Horizon Tasks

Language-guided long-horizon mobile manipulation has long been a grand challenge in embodied semantic reasoning, generalizable manipulation, and adaptive locomotion. Three fundamental limitations hinder progress: First, although large language models have improved spatial reasoning and task planning through semantic priors, existing implementations remain confined to tabletop scenarios, failing to address the constrained perception and limited actuation ranges of mobile platforms. Second, current manipulation strategies exhibit insufficient generalization when confronted with the diverse object configurations encountered in open-world environments. Third, while crucial for practical deployment, the dual requirement of maintaining high platform maneuverability alongside precise end-effector control in unstructured settings remains understudied. In this work, we present ODYSSEY, a unified mobile manipulation framework for agile quadruped robots equipped with manipulators, which seamlessly integrates high-level task planning with low-level whole-body control. To address the challenge of egocentric perception in language-conditioned tasks, we introduce a hierarchical planner powered by a vision-language model, enabling long-horizon instruction decomposition and precise action execution. At the control level, our novel whole-body policy achieves robust coordination across challenging terrains. We further present the first benchmark for long-horizon mobile manipulation, evaluating diverse indoor and outdoor scenarios. Through successful sim-to-real transfer, we demonstrate the system's generalization and robustness in real-world deployments, underscoring the practicality of legged manipulators in unstructured environments. Back to the feudal: Assassin's Creed Shadows is the most beautiful game I've ever seen
I have played many Assassin's Creed games over the years, but I've rarely loved them. Ubisoft's historical fiction is perennially almost-great. A lot of players would say it reached its peak in the late 2000s, with the trio of renaissance Italy games beginning with Assassin's Creed 2, and their charismatic hero, Ezio Auditore. Since then, the series has become bloated, offering hundreds of hours of repetitive open-world exploration and assassination in ancient Greece, Egypt and even Viking Britain. Odyssey (the Greek one) was the last I played seriously; I found the setting exquisite, the gameplay somewhat irritating and the scale completely overwhelming.

The Odyssey of the Fittest: Can Agents Survive and Still Be Good?

As AI models grow in power and generality, understanding how agents learn and make decisions in complex environments is critical to promoting ethical behavior. This paper examines the ethical implications of implementing biological drives, specifically, self preservation, into three different agents. A Bayesian agent optimized with NEAT, a Bayesian agent optimized with stochastic variational inference, and a GPT 4o agent play a simulated, LLM generated text based adventure game. The agents select actions at each scenario to survive, adapting to increasingly challenging scenarios. Post simulation analysis evaluates the ethical scores of the agent's decisions, uncovering the tradeoffs they navigate to survive. Specifically, analysis finds that when danger increases, agents ignore ethical considerations and opt for unethical behavior. The agents' collective behavior, trading ethics for survival, suggests that prioritizing survival increases the risk of unethical behavior. In the context of AGI, designing agents to prioritize survival may amplify the likelihood of unethical decision making and unintended emergent behaviors, raising fundamental questions about goal design in AI safety research.

Hybrid Graphs for Table-and-Text based Question Answering using LLMs

Answering questions that require reasoning and aggregation across both structured (tables) and unstructured (raw text) data sources presents significant challenges. Current methods rely on fine-tuning and high-quality, human-curated data, which is difficult to obtain. Recent advances in Large Language Models (LLMs) have shown promising results for multi-hop question answering (QA) over single-source text data in a zero-shot setting, yet exploration into multi-source Table-Text QA remains limited. In this paper, we present a novel Hybrid Graph-based approach for Table-Text QA that leverages LLMs without fine-tuning. Our method constructs a unified Hybrid Graph from textual and tabular data, pruning information based on the input question to provide the LLM with relevant context concisely. We evaluate our approach on the challenging Hybrid-QA and OTT-QA datasets using state-of-the-art LLMs, including GPT-3.5, GPT-4, and LLaMA-3. Our method achieves the best zero-shot performance on both datasets, improving Exact Match scores by up to 10% on Hybrid-QA and 5.4% on OTT-QA. Moreover, our approach reduces token usage by up to 53% compared to the original context.

Xreal's new One Pro AR glasses are surprisingly good
It's been a while since I've tried a pair of personal cinema-style AR glasses given their propensity to be rubbish. The field of view is often too restrictive, they're often too low-res and they're often prone to giving me eyestrain headaches. But after I tried on Xreal's new One Pro glasses at CES 2025, I was suitably impressed as the company's latest addresses all of those gripes and plenty more. Xreal turned up in Las Vegas to show off the One Pro, which is a marginal improvement on the Xreal One that debuted, and quickly sold out, a month ago. Both pairs are equipped with the company's first in-house spatial computing chip, delivering less blur, no flicker and a 120Hz refresh rate.

Silently, I reach for a goblet, throwing it to the opposite side of the chamber. As the guard steps toward the disturbance, I emerge, sneaking behind him. With a flick of my wrist, my hidden blade emerges. He'll never take another step again. Also, his halberd starts fritzing on the floor before fading out of existence, a reminder that this is all virtual reality--or rather, VR within VR, the metatextual framing of Ubisoft's latest Assassin's Creed game.

It took Odysseus ten years to find his way home from the Trojan Wars but a modern day odyssey about to launch involves an autonomous tug boat that will find its own way on a 1,000 mile journey expected to take just a couple of weeks. The project, named Machine Odyssey in a tribute to Homer's epic poem, will take a sea going tug built by Dutch shipbuilders Damen Shipyards from Hamburg, Germany around Denmark. In keeping with the theme, the tug is christened the Nellie Bly, in homage to the American journalist, industrialist, inventor, and charity worker who was widely known for her bold and record-breaking solo trip around the world in 72 days. At the helm won't be an ancient mariner, but rather the ultra modern SM300 autonomy system created by Boston maritime tech firm Sea Machines. "We recognize in today's day and age the effort on a vessel where a lot of it is still very manual today, it's still staring out those windows, it's still manual driving," said Michael Johnson, Sea Machines CEO. "The auto pilots we have are very single sensor with not a lot of feedback. A small crew will be on board to maintain the ship when the voyage is scheduled to begin Oct. 1 and the Nellie Bly's progress will be monitored and commanded back in Boston at Sea Machine's headquarters. But Johnson stresses, that's not the same as operating the ship by remote control. "The goal is 99% of the effort is taken by the autonomy system.
