LG soundbar with a center up-firing speaker will lead its CES audio lineup

Engadget

LG has given us a glimpse of the audio products it's showcasing at next year's CES, specifically the lineup's crown jewel: A premium soundbar, which the company claims has the "world's first center up-firing speaker." That's five up-firing channels, three of which are on the soundbar itself and two in the separate rear speakers. The company says the up-firing channels provide realistic sounds, made even more immersive by the center up-firing speaker that enables clearer dialogue delivery. The wireless rear speakers it comes with also have six channels instead of four like previous models do, with their four front/side drivers and two up-firing ones. In addition, the model has a more sensitive receiver that allows greater distance between the soundbar and its accompanying rear speakers and subwoofer.

AI in Marketing

#artificialintelligence

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is being applied in various marketing spaces, such as digital marketing, content marketing, affiliate marketing, and beyond. But before moving to AI technology in marketing, let's know something about Artificial Intelligence. AI is a broad range of computer science, correlated with building smart machines or devices that are capable of accomplishing any task that requires human intelligence. It is the study of intelligent agents: the system that recognizes its environment and takes action to achieve its goal. It covers a huge range of data, information, images, and videos using machine learning techniques.

Artificial intelligence applications

#artificialintelligence

Artificial intelligence is being applied in various digital marketing spaces, such as content marketing, email marketing, social media marketing, affiliate marketing, and beyond. AI is causing booms in many sectors, especially IT, finance, HR, governance, and many more. FedEx for example, is doing so well in automating AI. Not only this but also Novartis and Microsoft are coming together to plan AI in pharmaceuticals. AI has made a dramatic difference as, for example, Google Home, Amazon Echo, Netflix, if you don't know the language in which you are watching a movie, you can change it, perhaps to any other language, and watch with hassle-free.

Here are the best Amazon Echo deals right now

#artificialintelligence

When it comes to smart speakers, Amazon has a slew of voice-enabled Echo devices to choose from, one for practically every occasion. Maybe you want to add Alexa to a spare bedroom, for example, or you're looking for an Echo device that will allow you to easily manage your lighting or other smart home devices. Regardless of the reason, this is one of the best times of the year to pick up an Echo device, even if Black and Cyber Monday are behind us. Last year, Amazon released the fourth generation of the Echo Dot, which looks more like a sphere than an actual dot. But if you prefer the previous design, don't worry: Amazon has not discontinued the third-gen Echo Dot, which still retains the familiar dot shape and is currently on sale for just $19.99 at Amazon.

Neural News Recommendation with Event Extraction

arXiv.org Artificial Intelligence

A key challenge of online news recommendation is to help users find articles they are interested in. Traditional news recommendation methods usually use single news information, which is insufficient to encode news and user representation. Recent research uses multiple channel news information, e.g., title, category, and body, to enhance news and user representation. However, these methods only use various attention mechanisms to fuse multi-view embeddings without considering deep digging higher-level information contained in the context. These methods encode news content on the word level and jointly train the attention parameters in the recommendation network, leading to more corpora being required to train the model. We propose an Event Extraction-based News Recommendation (EENR) framework to overcome these shortcomings, utilizing event extraction to abstract higher-level information. EENR also uses a two-stage strategy to reduce parameters in subsequent parts of the recommendation network. We train the Event Extraction module by external corpora in the first stage and apply the trained model to the news recommendation dataset to predict event-level information, including event types, roles, and arguments, in the second stage. Then we fuse multiple channel information, including event information, news title, and category, to encode news and users. Extensive experiments on a real-world dataset show that our EENR method can effectively improve the performance of news recommendations. Finally, we also explore the reasonability of utilizing higher abstract level information to substitute news body content.

Google Home update makes it easier to review Nest camera footage

Engadget

An update is rolling out for the Google Home app that should make it faster for users to hop between events captured by Nest devices. New "Transport Controls," as Google calls them, include play/pause, back and forward buttons. The feature works with footage from the wired and wireless version of Nest Cam, the battery-powered Nest Doorbell and Nest Cam with Floodlight. Until now, as 9to5 Google notes, users needed to scrub through the timeline or make their way to the Full History tab to get to all of the events. While it might now be faster to move from one event to the next compared with the Nest app, Home users won't have the granular control of the forward and backward buttons from the older app, which moved the playhead 15 seconds at a time in either direction.

5 Steps to Data-Based Decisions

#artificialintelligence

Organizations in virtually every industry are now awash in more data than they know what to do with. But how can they take all of that information and use it to arrive at new insights that help to improve operations and chart a path forward? The exact journey from data, to insight, to decision-making will look slightly different for every organization. But my observations of best practices across industries reveal a common architecture to the process. Anyone who opens up an e-commerce shop on a platform like Shopify almost instantly begins to collect data – information about transactions from different channels, suppliers, inventory, customer reviews, and other sources.

Norway fines dating app Grindr $7.16M over breaching privacy rules

FOX News

French president warns against telling Europeans what words to say and not to say; author Douglas Murray reacts on'Fox & Friends.' Norway's data privacy watchdog on Wednesday fined gay dating app Grindr 65 million kroner ($7.16 million) for sending sensitive personal data to hundreds of potential advertising partners without users' consent -- a breach of strict European Union privacy rules. The Norwegian Data Protection Authority said it imposed its highest fine to date because the California-based company didn't comply with the EU's tough data protection regulations. Norway isn't a member of the 27-nation bloc but closely mirrors EU rules. Grindr said the agency's findings related to consent policies from years ago, not its current practices, and that it is considering its next steps, including an appeal. The data watchdog "relies on a series of flawed findings, introduces many untested legal perspectives, and the proposed fine is therefore still entirely out of proportion with those flawed findings," said Grindr's chief privacy officer, Shane Wiley.
