LogicRec: Recommendation with Users' Logical Requirements

Users may demand recommendations with highly personalized requirements involving logical operations, e.g., the intersection of two requirements, where such requirements naturally form structured logical queries on knowledge graphs (KGs). To date, existing recommender systems lack the capability to tackle users' complex logical requirements. In this work, we formulate the problem of recommendation with users' logical requirements (LogicRec) and construct benchmark datasets for LogicRec. Furthermore, we propose an initial solution for LogicRec based on logical requirement retrieval and user preference retrieval, where we face two challenges. First, KGs are incomplete in nature. Therefore, there are always missing true facts, which entails that the answers to logical requirements can not be completely found in KGs. In this case, item selection based on the answers to logical queries is not applicable. We thus resort to logical query embedding (LQE) to jointly infer missing facts and retrieve items based on logical requirements. Second, answer sets are under-exploited. Existing LQE methods can only deal with query-answer pairs, where queries in our case are the intersected user preferences and logical requirements. However, the logical requirements and user preferences have different answer sets, offering us richer knowledge about the requirements and preferences by providing requirement-item and preference-item pairs. Thus, we design a multi-task knowledge-sharing mechanism to exploit these answer sets collectively. Extensive experimental results demonstrate the significance of the LogicRec task and the effectiveness of our proposed method.
Conditional Denoising Diffusion for Sequential Recommendation

Generative models have attracted significant interest due to their ability to handle uncertainty by learning the inherent data distributions. However, two prominent generative models, namely Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs) and Variational AutoEncoders (VAEs), exhibit challenges that impede achieving optimal performance in sequential recommendation tasks. Specifically, GANs suffer from unstable optimization, while VAEs are prone to posterior collapse and over-smoothed generations. The sparse and noisy nature of sequential recommendation further exacerbates these issues. In response to these limitations, we present a conditional denoising diffusion model, which includes a sequence encoder, a cross-attentive denoising decoder, and a step-wise diffuser. This approach streamlines the optimization and generation process by dividing it into easier and tractable steps in a conditional autoregressive manner. Furthermore, we introduce a novel optimization schema that incorporates both cross-divergence loss and contrastive loss. This novel training schema enables the model to generate high-quality sequence/item representations and meanwhile precluding collapse. We conducted comprehensive experiments on four benchmark datasets, and the superior performance achieved by our model attests to its efficacy.
'Child's Play' actor Ed Gale admits soliciting for child sex in sting operation
"Child's Play" actor Ed Gale admitted to Creep Catchers Unit that he was trying to meet a teenage boy for sex and he had engaged in sexually explicit online conversations with who he thought was a boy. The 59-year-old actor, who starred in the 1988 horror film "Child's Play" and several follow-ups, was confronted last Friday by the San Diego-based child advocacy group, which ran a sting operation at Gale's Hollywood apartment and released video from the encounter. The founder of the CC Unit, who goes by the name Ghost, met with Gale under the pretense that he was the 14-year-old boy Gale believed he had been conversing with. Upon meeting at Gale's apartment, Ghost presented Gale with printouts of the online conversations the actor allegedly had through one of CC Units' decoy accounts and asked Gale whether he had tried to solicit child pornography. A small group of 20-somethings are posing as young teens on online dating sites, trying to catch people they suspect are trying to lure them for sex.
Transcending the "Male Code": Implicit Masculine Biases in NLP Contexts

Critical scholarship has elevated the problem of gender bias in data sets used to train virtual assistants (VAs). Most work has focused on explicit biases in language, especially against women, girls, femme-identifying people, and genderqueer folk; implicit associations through word embeddings; and limited models of gender and masculinities, especially toxic masculinities, conflation of sex and gender, and a sex/gender binary framing of the masculine as diametric to the feminine. Yet, we must also interrogate how masculinities are "coded" into language and the assumption of "male" as the linguistic default: implicit masculine biases. To this end, we examined two natural language processing (NLP) data sets. We found that when gendered language was present, so were gender biases and especially masculine biases. Moreover, these biases related in nuanced ways to the NLP context. We offer a new dictionary called AVA that covers ambiguous associations between gendered language and the language of VAs.
Can Voice Assistants Sound Cute? Towards a Model of Kawaii Vocalics

The Japanese notion of "kawaii" or expressions of cuteness, vulnerability, and/or charm is a global cultural export. Work has explored kawaii-ness as a design feature and factor of user experience in the visual appearance, nonverbal behaviour, and sound of robots and virtual characters. In this initial work, we consider whether voices can be kawaii by exploring the vocal qualities of voice assistant speech, i.e., kawaii vocalics. Drawing from an age-inclusive model of kawaii, we ran a user perceptions study on the kawaii-ness of younger- and older-sounding Japanese computer voices. We found that kawaii-ness intersected with perceptions of gender and age, i.e., gender ambiguous and girlish, as well as VA features, i.e., fluency and artificiality. We propose an initial model of kawaii vocalics to be validated through the identification and study of vocal qualities, cognitive appraisals, behavioural responses, and affective reports.

Artificial Intelligence poses both risks and rewards, but developers should be weary of technologies that could threaten "scary" outcomes, AI technologist says. Men who have trouble finding dates are reportedly turning to artificial intelligence and self-described love guru to craft appealing dating profiles. "My AI prompts and training can turn any guy from zero to hero," Stefan-Pierre Tomlin, a 32-year-old London model and self-described love guru, told South West News Service, according to the New York Post. Tomlin operates a website called Celebrity Love Coach where subscribers can pay between roughly $55 to $150 a month to receive his advice and "support to help you achieve your dating goals," according to the website. Subscribers also receive access to "bespoke" AI to draft appealing dating profiles.
MATURE-HEALTH: HEALTH Recommender System for MAndatory FeaTURE choices

Balancing electrolytes is utmost important and essential for appropriate functioning of organs in human body as electrolytes imbalance can be an indication of the development of underlying pathophysiology. Efficient monitoring of electrolytes imbalance not only can increase the chances of early detection of disease, but also prevents the further deterioration of the health by strictly following nutrient controlled diet for balancing the electrolytes post disease detection. In this research, a recommender system MATURE Health is proposed and implemented, which predicts the imbalance of mandatory electrolytes and other substances presented in blood and recommends the food items with the balanced nutrients to avoid occurrence of the electrolytes imbalance. The proposed model takes user most recent laboratory results and daily food intake into account to predict the electrolytes imbalance. MATURE Health relies on MATURE Food algorithm to recommend food items as latter recommends only those food items that satisfy all mandatory nutrient requirements while also considering user past food preferences. To validate the proposed method, particularly sodium, potassium, and BUN levels have been predicted with prediction algorithm, Random Forest, for dialysis patients using their laboratory reports history and daily food intake. And, the proposed model demonstrates 99.53 percent, 96.94 percent and 95.35 percent accuracy for Sodium, Potassium, and BUN respectively. MATURE Health is a novel health recommender system that implements machine learning models to predict the imbalance of mandatory electrolytes and other substances in the blood and recommends the food items which contain the required amount of the nutrients that prevent or at least reduce the risk of the electrolytes imbalance.
A Reference Model for Collaborative Business Intelligence Virtual Assistants

Collaborative Business Analysis (CBA) is a methodology that involves bringing together different stakeholders, including business users, analysts, and technical specialists, to collaboratively analyze data and gain insights into business operations. The primary objective of CBA is to encourage knowledge sharing and collaboration between the different groups involved in business analysis, as this can lead to a more comprehensive understanding of the data and better decision-making. CBA typically involves a range of activities, including data gathering and analysis, brainstorming, problem-solving, decision-making and knowledge sharing. These activities may take place through various channels, such as in-person meetings, virtual collaboration tools or online forums. This paper deals with virtual collaboration tools as an important part of Business Intelligence (BI) platform. Collaborative Business Intelligence (CBI) tools are becoming more user-friendly, accessible, and flexible, allowing users to customize their experience and adapt to their specific needs. The goal of a virtual assistant is to make data exploration more accessible to a wider range of users and to reduce the time and effort required for data analysis. It describes the unified business intelligence semantic model, coupled with a data warehouse and collaborative unit to employ data mining technology. Moreover, we propose a virtual assistant for CBI and a reference model of virtual tools for CBI, which consists of three components: conversational, data exploration and recommendation agents. We believe that the allocation of these three functional tasks allows you to structure the CBI issue and apply relevant and productive models for human-like dialogue, text-to-command transferring, and recommendations simultaneously. The complex approach based on these three points gives the basis for virtual tool for collaboration. CBI encourages people, processes, and technology to enable everyone sharing and leveraging collective expertise, knowledge and data to gain valuable insights for making better decisions. This allows to respond more quickly and effectively to changes in the market or internal operations and improve the progress.
Security and Privacy Problems in Voice Assistant Applications: A Survey

Voice assistant applications have become omniscient nowadays. Two models that provide the two most important functions for real-life applications (i.e., Google Home, Amazon Alexa, Siri, etc.) are Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR) models and Speaker Identification (SI) models. According to recent studies, security and privacy threats have also emerged with the rapid development of the Internet of Things (IoT). The security issues researched include attack techniques toward machine learning models and other hardware components widely used in voice assistant applications. The privacy issues include technical-wise information stealing and policy-wise privacy breaches. The voice assistant application takes a steadily growing market share every year, but their privacy and security issues never stopped causing huge economic losses and endangering users' personal sensitive information. Thus, it is important to have a comprehensive survey to outline the categorization of the current research regarding the security and privacy problems of voice assistant applications. This paper concludes and assesses five kinds of security attacks and three types of privacy threats in the papers published in the top-tier conferences of cyber security and voice domain.
An Ecosystem for Personal Knowledge Graphs: A Survey and Research Roadmap

This paper presents an ecosystem for personal knowledge graphs (PKG), commonly defined as resources of structured information about entities related to an individual, their attributes, and the relations between them. PKGs are a key enabler of secure and sophisticated personal data management and personalized services. However, there are challenges that need to be addressed before PKGs can achieve widespread adoption. One of the fundamental challenges is the very definition of what constitutes a PKG, as there are multiple interpretations of the term. We propose our own definition of a PKG, emphasizing the aspects of (1) data ownership by a single individual and (2) the delivery of personalized services as the primary purpose. We further argue that a holistic view of PKGs is needed to unlock their full potential, and propose a unified framework for PKGs, where the PKG is a part of a larger ecosystem with clear interfaces towards data services and data sources. A comprehensive survey and synthesis of existing work is conducted, with a mapping of the surveyed work into the proposed unified ecosystem. Finally, we identify open challenges and research opportunities for the ecosystem as a whole, as well as for the specific aspects of PKGs, which include population, representation and management, and utilization.
