How to get the most out of virtual assistants
Virtual assistants like Siri, Cortana and Google Now have become a fixture in many people's daily lives, helping them get driving directions, find phone numbers and search the Web using their voice. Now a crop of savvy users have found ways to use those tools at work, too. Virtual assistants can tackle a range of workplace tasks, such as scour emails for important information, send reminders about future appointments and set up meetings automatically. Thanks to big data and artificial intelligence, assistants are better able to understand the way people really communicate and are beginning to anticipate their needs. According to Gallup, nearly two-thirds of working adults say they don't have enough time in the workday to complete what they set out to do.
Is the End of Computer Literacy in Sight? - Smarter With Gartner
The working relationship between people and technology is fundamentally shifting. Employees used to learn the language of business applications to use them. A world where Shift F9 created a new line item entry in their expenses. Since then, advances in user experience design have masked the language of technology with buttons and guided navigation. The user training toll has decreased but it has by no means gone away.
Skype is getting Cortana and crazy bot messaging
You'll soon be able to use Skype to books trips, shop, and plan your schedule, just by chatting with Cortana. During its Build conference, Microsoft demoed how Skype users will soon be able to start a chat with Cortana and get things done just by having a conversation. "Cortana is brokering the conversation with a third-party bot," says Lilian Rincon, Skype's program manager. Essentially, Skype will know which company or service you want to talk to, bring a new bot into your chat to help out, and then get rid of the bot when you're done. The new features are strongly reminiscent of what Facebook is doing with Messenger. It's allowing third parties to build bots that can help their customers through chat.
How I got the Amazon Echo (Alexa) to start my GM car.
The Echo is just in the car for the ease of showing everything in one shot and working. Its home is on my kitchen counter. The only thing that stays in the car is the MX Bluetooth and the Pi. I also am getting a lot of comments on security concerns with either the way the can-bus is implemented, or this car starter is implemented. I will write a blog post on this soon. TL;DR Seriously, it's just as safe as a keyfob and can only be used on your local network at home.
Here's why Cortana leaves Siri and Google Now in the dust
It isn't often that Microsoft is the company that beats Apple and Google to the punch, especially when it comes to something as cool and sophisticated as virtual assistants but, with Cortana, Redmond has done just that. The presentation that Microsoft gave at Build 2016, the company's annual conference in which it explains where it's at and what it's doing, focused on'bots', artificial intelligence, and improving services like Cortana. Siri, the virtual assistant that Apple launched alongside the iPhone 4S, and Google Now, the assistant embedded in most new Android phones, are rapidly being outpaced by Microsoft's assistant, which is available on smartphones, tablets, and PCs. This may not seem like a radical difference, but it does mean that Cortana is well-placed to dominate in an area that Microsoft thrives in โ the enterprise. Embedding Cortana into the mindset of businesses is important and, thanks to the rapid uptake of Windows 10, possible.
Microsoft's developer conference highlights machine learning
Microsoft Build, the company's annual conference with software developers, gets underway Wednesday. Microsoft will be talking about its plans for the year, and encouraging developers to think up new applications for its products. Two of the most important things Microsoft is highlighting are artificial intelligence and machine learning. If you use Microsoft products, chances are you already experience machine learning, said spokesman Frank Shaw, who gave the example of Microsoft virtual assistant Cortana. "Cortana will say, currently, 'Hey, you sent email and promised a reply by tomorrow. One of the key elements of the Microsoft Build developer conference is thinking about how to incorporate that kind of intelligence throughout the Microsoft ecosystem. "Microsoft is very good, and they're getting better.
Supply Chain Management Benefits from AI
One of the key driving forces behind supply chain augmented reality is artificial intelligence. AI is making an impression on day-to-day life with Amazon's Echo, Microsoft's Cortana, and Apple's Siri. It is also ready to change the supply chain in profound ways. Artificial Intelligence Computer software created to interact with human capabilities and make decisions is artificial intelligence. The futuristic supply chain will leverage powerful AI to its benefit.

Untethered and unguided: Our first deep look at HoloLens
After a quick run through with Lorraine Bardeen, GM Windows and HoloLens experiences, I was left alone in the living room to discover the digital information all around me. The juxtaposition of three-dimensional holograms and real objects had created a mixed reality. Interacting with the projections peppered in the room quickly started to feel like some sort of technological hallucination. The holograms were only visible to me. One of the first things I noticed about the headset was its see-through "holographic lens".
