While Amazon's virtual assistant has been tied to its own devices since its introduction more than two years ago, it is now beginning its an all-out assault on Siri and Google Assistant as it looks to establish a foothold on iOS and Android. But entering enemy territory isn't going to be easy. Apple and Google have both built their AI aides deeply into their mobile operating systems, so Alexa has to live inside apps for now. On the iPhone it's inside the Amazon shopping app, and on the Mate 9 (the only Android phone that supports it), it's accessible via a dedicated Huawei Alexa app. So to use it, you'll need to open the respective app before you can start asking questions.

I like everything to be stored on my computer and I don't need to "share" stuff with others, but I have a feeling that Microsoft and others want everyone to sign up. It's almost impossible to avoid the cloud now, because of the movement of commercial and government services to the web, the multiplication of computing devices and the rapid growth in smartphones. NEW YORK โ€“ Samsung on Wednesday unveiled its new Galaxy S8 smartphones, incorporating the virtual assistant Bixby, as the market leader seeks to rebound from a chaotic handset recall and a corruption scandal. The South Korean giant's mobile chief, DJ Koh, told a New York event the Galaxy S8 and S8 handsets marked "a new era of smartphone design." Fitted with screens of 5.8 and 6.2 inches, the two handsets include Samsung's upgraded digital assistant Bixby, competing in a crowded field that includes Apple's Siri, Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa. The most striking feature of the new phones is what Samsung dubs an "infinity display" -- an expanded glass screen that covers the entire front of the device and appears to curve seamlessly around its edges. The home button has been replaced with a pressure-sensitive section embedded under the screen.

TP-Link has announced that its slew of smart home products now have support for Google's intelligent assistant Google Assistant. Hence, consumers may now control their TP-Link smart devices using Google Home and the Pixel handsets as these come with Google Assistant. Among the many home products of TP-Link, the company pointed out that the TP-Link Smart Wi-Fi Bulbs, Smart Wi-Fi Switches and the Smart Plugs are now controllable using voice commands for Google Assistant. The smart light bulbs respond to certain commands like switching on and off and decreasing or increasing the brightness of the light. For bulbs that have color options, users may switch from one color to another using voice commands as well.
