WWDC 2017 Keynote Date: What Will Apple Announce At Its Annual Event?
Apple confirmed its keynote address for its upcoming Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) by sending press invitations for the June event Tuesday, MacRumors reported. Apple will hold the keynote event on June 5 at 10 a.m. The WWDC 2017 will consist of get-togethers, sessions and labs for developers, plus a keynote address. Last year, Apple unveiled iOS 10, which revamped iMessage and the Photos and Maps apps, along with other features. This year could include big announcements on the Apple TV, iOS 11 and the rumored Siri speaker.
Get ready for Cortana-powered Amazon Echo clones
Harman Kardon has released additional details about its Invoke smart speaker with Cortana inside, marking Microsoft's first venture into smart speakers to compete with the likes of Amazon Echo and Google Home. First teased last December, the smart speaker will be able to do things like manage a calendar, control smart home devices, play music, and deliver the news. Unlike competitors, Invoke will be able to make calls with Skype. The device will initially be available in Microsoft stores in fall 2017, but only in the United States. "We are excited to partner with Harman Kardon to create a speaker that combines premium audio and stylish design with the intelligence of Cortana," Microsoft AI products VP Jordi Ribas said in a release today.
Apple sends invites for June 5th event for Siri speaker
Apple has sent out invites to key press for the keynote of its Worldwide Developers Conference in San Jose on June 5th. The firm is rumoured to be unveiling a smart speaker using its Siri assistant at the event to take on Amazon's Echo range and Google Home. The firm is also expected to unveil the next version of its iOS software, with some analysts claiming it may even give a sneak peek of the next iPhone. The keynote address will take place on June 5th in San Jose, and Apple is rumoured to be unveiling a smart speaker using its Siri assistant at the event to take on Amazon's Echo range and Google Home. A JP Morgan analyst has suggested there is a'high likelihood' that the tech giant will preview the iPhone 8 at the World Developers Conference in June โ a move that breaks five years of tradition.
Unclear If Siri Speaker Will Have Display Screen Like Amazon's Echo Show
Amazon revealed the Echo Show Tuesday, and with coverage of the Alexa gadget came rumors about Apple's upcoming Siri speaker. Apple employees have been testing the Siri speaker in their homes for several months, sources familiar with the matter told Bloomberg. So far, it's unknown whether Apple's upcoming Siri speaker will come with a built-in display, like Amazon's Echo Show. Marketing chief Phil Schiller said last week in an interview he thinks voice assistant devices are beneficial, but that doesn't mean you'd never want a screen. KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo previously said there's a more than 50 percent chance Apple could announce its Siri speaker at the Worldwide Developers Conference this June.

Microsoft's Windows Chief On the Surface, Virtual Reality and More
Windows may dominate the worldwide desktop market, but Microsoft is working to adapt the operating system for all kinds of devices, from giant displays like the Surface Studio to mixed reality headsets like the HoloLens. The event comes after Microsoft recently debuted new products including Windows 10 S and the Surface Laptop . Harman Kardon also just revealed its new Invoke smart speaker, which is powered by Microsoft's Cortana virtual assistant. Terry Myerson, Microsoft's executive vice president of the Windows and devices group, sat down with TIME to discuss the future of Windows, Microsoft's hardware efforts, virtual reality, and more. Below is a transcript of our conversation edited for length and clarity.
Microsoft Build 2017: What to Expect at the Big Developer Bash
It's been a few years since Microsoft's then-CEO Steve Ballmer danced across the stage screaming "DEVELOPERS DEVELOPERS DEVELOPERS," but those are still the three words you'd use to explain this week's Build conference. Like Google's I/O or Apple's WWDC, the annual event is partly a state of the union, partly product unveiling, but mostly a time to bring the developer community together and pitch them on a vision of the future. The conference lasts two days, with keynote addresses starting at 8am on both Wednesday and Thursday. You can watch on Microsoft's site, and you should definitely hang out with us while we liveblog. Microsoft seemingly hasn't left itself much to unveil this time.
Amazon's Echo Show smart hub has a built-in touchscreen for video calling, selling you stuff
While this is Amazon's most expensive smart hub, it also seems like the most accessible for users who may not be as tech savvy. The device can be set up without having to download an extra app, and having information displayed on a screen may be simpler than arguing with a virtual assistant to try and achieve some specific tasks. This product announcement comes at a time where Amazon is already showing its strength in the smart hub market. Research firm eMarketer has just published a study claiming a 70.6 percent U.S. market share for Alexa-powered smart hubs, compared to just 23.8 percent for Google Home. Microsoft's Cortana is just now finally making it into a speaker device made by Harman Kardon, so it has some serious catching up to do in both hardware and market share.
