Primark's new 'supermarket tactic' to woo customers in online price war

BBC News

Primark's new'supermarket tactic' to woo customers in online price war It is something I keep hearing shoppers say when I ask them whether they shop at the fast-fashion giant. It's definitely got more expensive, says 19-year-old student Eshal Malik as she browses the jewellery at Primark with a friend. But that might be about to change. Primark said on Monday that it was lowering prices on hundreds of clothing items, including jeans, jumpers and socks. It's the kind of headline you'd expect from M&S or Next, says retail analyst Natalie Berg, explaining that price cuts like this from such a low-cost retailer are surprising.

Ukrainian drones hit Russian online retailer Wildberries, media and governor say

BBC News

Ukrainian drones have hit warehouses belonging to Russia's biggest online retailer again, injuring 10 people, according to Russian media and the region's governor. Logistics hubs belonging to Wildberries in Krasnodar and Stavropol were struck during overnight strikes, forcing workers to be evacuated, the company's owner said. It is the second time Ukraine has attacked the firm's facilities in four days, with warehouses in Tambov and Elektrostal hit on Saturday, killing eight and injuring 62. Kyiv has claimed the warehouses have been used to supply components to make Russia's drones and navigation equipment. Wildberries owner Tatyana Kim said on Telegram that there are no words to describe all the feelings and emotions caused by the attacks on ordinary people, on our employees, on us, who are simply doing our jobs. But these situations demonstrate the most important thing: we must continue to do what we do for the benefit of people.

A Beginner's Guide to Growing Mushrooms at Home (2026)

WIRED

After a year of logs, buckets, bins, and bark chips, I've found that growing mushrooms is tough. If you're a novice who wants to guarantee success, there are only two methods I'd recommend. Mushroom hunting is cool and fun, but you know what's not cool and fun? Having slugs or other mushroom hunters discover your secret spot. Or, worst of all, accidentally collecting the wrong kind of mushroom that could make you quite sick--or worse.

My Ebike Delivery Went Missing. When I Tried to Recover It, I Ended Up in Chatbot Hell

WIRED

My Ebike Delivery Went Missing. We live in an especially hilly area of Atlanta, which is an especially hilly city, and we'd both just gotten bonuses at work, making the nearly $2,000 per bike feel, for a moment, digestible. We placed our orders online, and days later, my fiancée's beautiful, feature-rich bike arrived at our door. Mine, bought separately from a different retailer, was delayed, then delayed again, and again. Finally, one Wednesday evening, I got a text from FedEx confirming that my bike had been delivered to our address and signed for.

How Aldi is taking on US supermarkets with its 4 almond butter

BBC News

When Mary Porter walked into Manhattan's newest Aldi store hunting for bargains, the long-time resident found what she considered a retail miracle in plain sight: a $4 jar of almond butter that costs $22 in her own neighbourhood. Aldi has the reputation for being inexpensive, so I thought I would come and check it out, and by golly, it is amazing, Porter, 79, told the BBC, marvelling at the savings alongside the fresh spinach and organic raspberries filling her basket. To the unassuming passer-by, the storefront is completely hidden, tucked away in an underground parking lot beneath The Ellery, a luxury apartment complex where the cheapest rent starts at nearly $5,000 (£3,725) a month. In fact, the building's own website completely omits the discount grocer from its curated online neighbourhood guide, choosing instead to highlight pricier nearby options like Whole Foods and Brooklyn Fare. But step past the luxury façade into the basement, and the quiet disappears.

The Best Pool Accessories to Upgrade Your Summer (2026)

WIRED

These are the cleaning robots, water monitors, and toys actually worth buying for pool season. This is not news to anyone who owns one, but the uninitiated may not know about the inordinate amount of daily labor and chores that lie behind a pool's clear, sparkling, perfectly chlorinated (or salted) water. Luckily, pool tech has come a long way in the past decade--gone are the hours spent scooping leaves and dead bugs out of the water with a long-handled net, laboring over pH strips, and trying to relax on floaties too small for your adult-sized behind. We've now got robots that clean your pool, apps that monitor water quality from your phone, and even a slushie machine for proper pool-party margs. With gas and plane ticket prices soaring to astronomical levels, there's never been a better time for a staycation at your own pool.

Daisy Sound's First Headphones Are Premium, High-Quality--and Just a Little Bit Cheaper

WIRED

Daisy's First Headphones Are Premium, High-Quality--and Just a Little Bit Cheaper The California-based startup enters a crowded headphone market with a $399 chiseled-aluminum gamble. Jack Mulroe thinks the premium headphone market is boring. Too focused on black, samey-looking devices; too caught up in the "spec wars" to figure out what the very best headset is . He just wants his California-inspired headphones to help people chill. "I just saw a pattern of there being kind of a dead space, honestly, in the headphone market, where the most recent culturally relevant brand was Beats," Mulroe says.
