The Beatles' AI-assisted song's Grammy nomination could 'push the limit' on interest in the technology

FOX News

Their final song was mixed with John Lennon's voice. The Beatles' return to the Grammys has come with an assist from artificial intelligence. "Now and Then" is nominated for record of the year and best rock performance at the 2025 Grammy Awards, making it the first nominated song ever to use AI in its production. The song utilized AI to clean up old demo recordings of John Lennon singing and playing piano, recorded in the late 1970s, as well as a guitar track from George Harrison, recorded six years before his death in 2001. "To me, this is a cool example of how AI can function in our current environment," Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason Jr. said in a statement to Fox News Digital.

Cher and Selena Gomez slam unauthorized AI use of their voices

FOX News

AI expert Marva Bailer explains how, even though there are currently laws in place, the average person has more access than ever to create deepfakes of celebrities. As artificial intelligence continues to gain popularity with individuals and companies, more stars are speaking out about its use. In an interview with The Associated Press, Cher expressed her fears about the technology after she heard someone use her voice to cover a song by Madonna. "Someone did me doing a Madonna song, and it was kind of shocking," she said. "They didn't have it down perfectly. But also, I've spent my entire life trying to be myself, and now these a--holes are going to go take it? And they'll do my acting, and they'll do my singing? WHAT IS ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE (AI)? Cher said artificial intelligence is "out of control." She continued, "I'm telling you, if you work forever to become somebody -- and I'm not talking about somebody in the famous, money part -- but an artist, and then someone just takes it from you, it seems like it should be illegal." Marva Bailer, an AI expert, told Fox News Digital that stars do have legal recourse when it comes to unauthorized use of their likeness or voice. "The laws that exist in place are already – you need permission to use someone's likeness, and a likeness could be their song, their voice, their image or performance.

Ice Cube says AI is 'demonic,' will get 'backlash from real people'

FOX News

A bipartisan panel of voters weighed in on the future of artificial intelligence and growing concerns surrounding the potential dangers of the emerging technology. Rapper Ice Cube described Artificial Intelligence (AI) as being "demonic" during a recent interview and said there would be a "backlash" against it from "real people." "Full Send Podcast" host Kyle Foregeard asked Ice Cube about the industry now and what he does and doesn't like about it. "The artists are getting lost in auto-tunes, and now that you have an AI computer. I think people don't want a computerized rapper no more. They want to hear your voice. I don't know any rappers by their voice no more. I used to know all the rappers just on hear their voice. He added, "So, I think they need to figure out how to put that auto-tune down, and we need to hear what people sound like and if they're as good.

AI can bring the Notorious B.I.G.'s voice back to life. Should it?

Washington Post - Technology News

In April, the release of "Heart On My Sleeve," a generative-AI track in the style of Drake and the Weeknd, sparked debate over the definition of artistic expression and offered a glimpse into consumers' appetite for music created using AI. Responding to the track, Universal Music Group, which works with Drake and the Weeknd, asked "which side of history all stakeholders in the music ecosystem want to be on: the side of artists, fans and human creative expression, or on the side of deep fakes, fraud and denying artists their due compensation."

The Drake AI Song Is Just the Tip of the Iceberg

TIME - Tech

The notion that Drake allegedly uses a ghostwriter to write his rhymes is a conspiracy that has haunted the rapper for years. He told Genius that he doesn't lean on ghostwriters, saying, "Any song that really, really did damage for me, I wrote every single lyric." The rumors were also the subject of his famous feud with rapper Meek Mill, spawning his pair of diss tracks, "Charged Up" and "Back to Back." But now, a more ominous presence has appeared on social media platforms to actually ghostwrite a Drake song--sort of. Last weekend a TikTok creator by the name of @ghostwriter977 uploaded a video in which they premiered an AI-generated "Drake" track titled "Heart on My Sleeve" with a faux-assist from a similarly AI-generated The Weeknd.

#artificialintelligence

Coming off its best quarter ever, SoftBank is on the hunt for its next billion dollar IPO. Having funded 29 of the 657 unicorns in the world, according to CB Insights, the Japanese telecom giant has been on a shopping spree, looking for promising new AI startups to bet big on. At Collision's tech conference held online last month, I had a chance to talk with the CEOs of SoftBank's newest portfolio companies, Standard Cognition and Forward. Here's how the two San Francisco startups are leveraging artificial intelligence to help gain market dominance in the post-pandemic world. In 2017, a group of machine learning engineers at the SEC became obsessed with computers that could see better than humans and ditched their jobs to join Y Combinator to build the computer vision company of their dreams.

Have you ever wondered what the Weeknd thinks about your taste in music? But I can now officially inform you that he loves my choice of tunes, thanks to a new Spotify microsite. According to the streaming giant, Alone With Me is "a personalized generative experience powered by deep learning and your Spotify listening data." The site introduces you to a digital avatar of the Canadian crooner, who greets you by name. You can also distort his body with your cursor, which feels like the digital equivalent of smudging ink.
