10 startups riding the wave of AI innovation

#artificialintelligence

We are excited to bring Transform 2022 back in-person July 19 and virtually July 20 - 28. Join AI and data leaders for insightful talks and exciting networking opportunities. Organizations are increasingly adopting AI-enabled technologies to address existing and emerging problems within the enterprise ecosystem, meet changing market demands and deliver business outcomes at scale. Shubhangi Vashisth, senior principal research analyst at Gartner, said that AI innovation is happening at a rapid pace. Vashisth further noted that innovations including edge AI, computer vision, decision intelligence and machine learning will have a transformational impact on the market in coming years. However, while AI-powered technologies are helping to build more agile and effective enterprise systems, they usher in new challenges. For example, Gartner notes that AI-based approaches if left unchecked can perpetuate bias, leading to issues, loss of productivity and revenue.

Virus test results in minutes? Scientists question accuracy

The Japan Times

MADRID – Some political leaders are hailing a potential breakthrough in the fight against COVID-19: simple pin-prick blood tests or nasal swabs that can determine within minutes if someone has, or previously had, the virus. The tests could reveal the true extent of the outbreak and help separate the healthy from the sick. But some scientists have challenged their accuracy. Hopes are hanging on two types of quick tests: antigen tests that use a nose or throat swab to look for the virus, and antibody tests that look in the blood for evidence someone had the virus and recovered. The tests are in short supply, and some of them are considered unreliable.

How the channel can help fight bias in AI applications

#artificialintelligence

Run a Google search on "bias in AI" and you'll find all kinds of stories about what can -- and does -- happen when systems become automated and the human element is removed. Of course, today, AI and machine learning are embedded into myriad different technologies, and while it no doubt plays a positive role, biased data is often problematic. As AI applications become more prevalent, channel firms can play a role in helping customers mitigate algorithm bias. Biased AI ranked the second biggest AI-related ethical concern associated with AI in Deloitte's 2018 "State of AI in the Enterprise" study, behind AI's power to help create and spread false information. "Today, algorithms are commonly used to help make many important decisions, such as granting credit, detecting crime, and assigning punishment," the report notes.

'T.N. likely to see use of big data ahead of Lok Sabha polls'

#artificialintelligence

With a number of political parties across the world using big data to reach out to voters during elections, Tamil Nadu too is likely to see the use of big data combined with artificial intelligence ahead of the Lok Sabha polls. With the voters' list, census data, data from all the past elections and social media chatter, parties could crack the polls, addressing issues that are key to voters, according to K. Swaminathan, founder and CEO, Aspire Ventures. Building on the platform he provided to late Jayalalithaa during the 2014 and 2016 elections, Mr. Swaminathan has developed the'Analytical Software for Psephological Influencers Research and Engagement' or Aspire 2.0 as he calls it, which uses AI and machine learning to provide real-time inputs to enable leaders to address issues or plan for the polls. Mr. Swaminathan, who was former secretary of the AIADMK IT wing, insists that the platform is "party independent" and can be used by any political party. The software enables a party to look at voting patterns from the previous elections and at data to identify gaps and ensure that they are plugged.
