Showtime for tech industry; India to lead in artificial intelligence: Satya Nadella
Considering how far the tech industry has come, Microsoft Chief Executive Officer Satya Nadella feels, It is'showtime' for them. "The most exciting thing to happen in the industry, perhaps, is the coming of OpenAI's ChatGPT, an artificially intelligent chatbot," he told CNBC TV18 in an interview. Meanwhile, he also mentioned the current downturn being experienced by the tech industry is because the demand spurred by the COVID-19 pandemic has begun to cool down, and that, coupled with a recession in several parts of the world, has resulted in a "normalisation." Talking about the future of the industry, Nadella said, "I think the next phase -- if you say mobile and cloud was the last paradigm -- is going to be artificial intelligence (AI). And that's kind of going to happen in the next, I would say, two or three years. It will be more like I take it back to 2007-2008, which is when cloud and mobile became big. I think we are in that phase when it comes to AI."

What's on TV this week: 'Saved by the Bell'
This week we'll celebrate Thanksgiving in the US, and nostalgia will be all over TV screens and Peacock resurrects Saved by the Bell with a cast that includes new younger actors and several of the stars from the original show. Other throwbacks include Mad Max on Ultra HD Blu-ray and a Buck Rogers box set, but for something newer you can check out Peninsula, a sequel to the excellent Korean zombie movie Train to Busan as it arrives on Ultra HD Blu-ray. Netflix's latest feature film is Mosul, along with its Hillbilly Elegy movie. Criterion is also releasing a special edition of Netflix's Martin Scorsese feature The Irishman, however it's sadly only available in 1080p Blu-ray without the benefit of 4K and Dolby Vision HDR. For an all-new option, try Superintelligence on HBO Max, where Melissa McCarthy stars as a woman chosen by an all-powerful AI for surveillance via her various connected devices.

What's on TV this week: HBO Max, 'Space Force' and 'Uncut Gems'
This week HBO makes its assault on streaming with the new HBO Max service. At launch it will include tons of archival content like the back catalog of Friends, Rick & Morty and 2001: A Space Odyssey, as well as a fleet of new original shows, movies and specials hoping to get your attention on Wednesday. I'm looking forward to the new Looney Tunes Cartoons, as well as the comedy/drama series Love Life with Anna Kendrick, but there's a lot more to choose from. Of course, Netflix is the current giant in streaming and it's not laying down for the newcomer. This week it already added Uncut Gems for viewers in the US, and later this week it will premiere a Jeffrey Epstein documentary series and the new show Space Force starring Steve Carell.

On an Optimal Solution to the Film Scheduling and Showtime Staggering Problem
Kohli, Ikjyot Singh, Inglis, Katherine Goff
In an era of data driven digital transformation, a customer driven business strategy is essential for success. In the motion picture industry, movie exhibitors must compete to win share of consumers entertainment time (and wallet) against digital entertainment alternatives offered by mammoth sized, digital focused, competitors like Netflix, Amazon and Disney [1]. Customer loyalty, point-of-sale and digital payment p latforms produce rich insights that can leveraged to inform business operations and automate the decision-making pr ocess, effectively enabling movie exhibitors to compete using analytics and artificial intelligence. This study presen ts a new, customer driven, quantitative approach to movie scheduling that can be utilized by movie exhibitors to increase attendance and market share. The role of the exhibitor is to show films that are produced by movie st udios (see [2] for more details on the roles of the stakeholders in the movie industry). Exhibitors do not have d ecision making authority over the movies that are produced by the studios.

Honor Magic Hands-On: Huawei's Face-Recognizing, A.I.-Powered Concept Phone
Even if you don't follow mobile news closely, Huawei is a name you've probably been hearing a lot lately. That's because the Chinese telecommunication's phones have grown tremendously in name recognition and global units shipped in 2016. But Huawei's independent sub brand Honor is no slouch. The e-commerce brand has been popular among western consumers who want a high quality device on a budget for a couple years, but the brand's recent release, the phone, is more than just about being a good value. The Honor Magic is an unusual "concept device" that puts the "smart" in smartphone.

Hey, Siri: You still have a lot of work to do
Apple says their voice recognition app Siri is improved. USA TODAY's Jefferson Graham puts Siri through a few tests to find out. Siri's closest Indian restaurant turned out to be in San Jose, California, just a 6 hour drive from Los Angeles (Photo: Robert Hanashiro) LOS ANGELES -- Hey, Siri: if you can't find me an Indian restaurant just three miles from my office, what can you get right? With the IOS 10 mobile operating system upgrade, Apple has promised us that its five-year-old personal digital assistant Siri would be better than ever, and would expand beyond the core Apple apps to also work with third-party apps like LinkedIn, Uber and Pinterest. The results of my tests is that Siri is slightly improved, but only if you take the time to enunciate correctly and slowly, and teach the voice-activated assistant what you want.
