Brain.js Brings Deep Learning to the Browser and Node.js
Brain.js is a JavaScript library for deploying a neural network in the browser or on Node.js. It uses a computer's GPU (graphics processing unit) for calculations, or pure JavaScript when GPU isn't available. The lead developer of Brain.js is Robert Plummer, by day a full-stack engineer at iFIT. I reached out to him to find out more about Brain.js, As the name of Plummer's project suggests, neural networks are computer systems that mimic how a biological brain works.

Gartner's top 10 strategic predictions for 2020
Technology is creating ever-changing expectations for people, and Gartner's top predictions for 2020 reflect these new challenges. The predictions were revealed at the Gartner IT Symposium/Xpo 2019 in Orlando, which runs through October 24. More than 9,000 IT leaders and CIO's are in attendance at the conference. "Technology is changing the notion of what it means to be human," said Daryl Plummer, distinguished vice president and Gartner Fellow. "As workers and citizens see technology as an enhancement of their abilities, the human condition changes as well. CIOs in end-user organizations must understand the effects of the change and reset expectations for what technology means."

6 predictions from Gartner could reshape C-suite priorities
Humans used technology to introduce products into the market. Technology later offered humans access to new ways of selling those products, and new ways to increase their efficiency. Now, technology's relentless cycle of innovation has touched humanity, redefining what it means to be human, a meaningful change that will impact business priorities in the not-so distant future. Daryl Plummer, distinguished vice president and Gartner Fellow, outlined the analyst firm's top predictions for 2020 and beyond, speaking at the Gartner IT Symposium/Xpo on Tuesday. In Gartner's view, the workplace of the future will see technology augment human capacity, overhaul employee experience and open markets for expansion.

AI Could Reinvent Medicine--Or Become a Patient's Nightmare
In the 1880s, when the world-renowned Mayo Clinic was still a young fraternal surgical practice in the newish state of Minnesota, its doctors scribbled notes about their patients into heavy, leather-bound ledgers. But in 1907, a physician there named Henry Plummer came up with something better. He thought the episodes of a patient's medical history should all be in one place, not scattered between many doctors' journals. So he introduced a new system, creating for every Mayo patient a centrally housed file folder and a unique identifying number that was to be inscribed on every piece of paper that went inside it--doctor's notes, lab results, patient correspondence, birth and death records. And recognizing the scientific value in these dossiers, he also convinced Mayo's leadership to make them available for teaching and research to any physician at the practice.
10 Top Strategic Predictions for 2019 - InformationWeek
Deciding which projects to invest in right away and what projects should wait a little longer is one of the big tasks corporate boards and CIOs are focused on right now during IT budget season. To help decision makers with the big task at hand, Gartner Distinguished VP and Analyst Daryl Plummer announced to a packed house Gartner's Top Strategic Predictions for 2019 and Beyond during Gartner Symposium/ITExpo yestereday in Orlando. "When we look at predicting the future, we typically have an 80 to 85% accuracy rate across all our predictions, and one of the things that I always say is that that's not good," Plummer said. "I'd be happier if our accuracy rate was 60% because I say if you aren't wrong you're not trying hard enough. I just found out one of our reports dropped to a 30% accuracy rate. I wasn't as happy about that as I thought I might be."

Gartner Reveals Top Predictions for IT Organizations and Users in 2018 and Beyond
Gartner, Inc. today revealed its top predictions for 2018 and beyond. Gartner's top predictions will enable organizations to move beyond thinking about mere notions of technology adoption to focus on the issues that surround what it really means to be human in the digital world. "Technology-based innovation is arriving faster than most organizations can keep up with. Before one innovation is implemented, two others arrive," said Daryl Plummer, vice president and Gartner Fellow, Distinguished. "CIOs in end-user organizations will need to develop a pace that can be sustained no matter what the future holds. Our predictions provide insight into that future, but enterprises will still be required to develop a discipline around how pace can be achieved. Those who seek value from technology-based options must move faster as their digital business efforts move into high gear. Speed of change will require variability of skills and capabilities to address rising challenges."

AI to create jobs by 2020, says Gartner
Artificial intelligence (AI) will create 2.3 million jobs globally and become a positive "net job motivator" by 2020, according to Gartner Inc. "AI will eliminate more jobs than it creates through 2019, however, Gartner believes that the number of jobs created due to AI in 2020 is sufficient to overcome the deficit," according to the U.S.-based research and advisory company's top ten predictions for 2018. Gartner forecast that AI would eliminate about 1.8 million jobs by 2019. "Net job creation or elimination will vary greatly by industry; some industries will experience overall job loss, some industries will experience net job loss for only a few years; and some industries, such as healthcare and education, will never experience net job loss." AI is the simulation of human intelligence processes by machines, especially computer systems. These processes include learning, reasoning, and self-correction.
