Artificial intelligence transforms patient care and reduces burnout, physician says

FOX News

With just one click, the AI technology begins transcribing the doctor's conversation with a patient. DENVER – Artificial intelligence is quietly transforming how doctors interact with patients -- and it might already be in use during your next visit to the doctor's office. Thousands of physicians across the country are using a form of AI called ambient listening, surveys show. This technology listens to conversations between doctors and patients, creates real-time transcriptions, and then compiles detailed clinical notes -- all without disrupting the flow of the appointment. Dr. Daniel Kortsch, associate chief of artificial intelligence and digital health at Denver Health, said that ambient listening technology has made a big difference since his practice began using it in fall 2024.

BBC News to create AI department to offer more personalised content

The Guardian

BBC News is to create a new department that will use AI to give the public more personalised content, as its leader said the corporation had been "defying gravity" in reaching audiences amid seismic changes in the way news is consumed. In a note to staff seen by the Guardian, Deborah Turness, the chief executive of BBC News, announced an overhaul of the organisation's structure, including the creation of a new department, BBC News growth, innovation and AI. It will have a particular focus on under-25s, amid a huge shift to news consumption on smartphones and on platforms such as TikTok. Turness said the corporation had to act fast to counter a series of headwinds including "the growing trend of news avoidance, the growth of news consumption on social platforms, increased digital competition and inevitable broadcast decline". It is understood that measures could include deploying AI to curate stories for users on their phones, based on their previous consumption, in a way that suits those used to consuming content served up by social media.

The DOGE Acting Administrator Isn't New to the Trump World

Mother Jones

The White House today announced the name of the acting administrator of the Department of Government Efficiency: Amy Gleason, the US government's problem solver in the early days of the data-starved response to the Covid pandemic and a seasoned worker in the health space. The White House named Gleason after it argued in court that Elon Musk is not really the head of DOGE, and faced pressure from a federal judge to say who is. How long Gleason has been the acting administrator, and if Musk was an unofficial one before today's announcement, is unclear. This is Gleason's second time working in US Digital Services, now turned DOGE. In her first tour, which started in 2018 and carried through the frenzied and chaotic pandemic response, she pushed the bounds of existing bureaucracy to meet the crisis' demand.

A Multi-Label Dataset of French Fake News: Human and Machine Insights

Icard, Benjamin, Maine, François, Casanova, Morgane, Faye, Géraud, Chanson, Julien, Gadek, Guillaume, Atemezing, Ghislain, Bancilhon, François, Égré, Paul

arXiv.org Artificial Intelligence

We present a corpus of 100 documents, named OBSINFOX, selected from 17 sources of French press considered unreliable by expert agencies, annotated using 11 labels by 8 annotators. By collecting more labels than usual, by more annotators than is typically done, we can identify features that humans consider as characteristic of fake news, and compare them to the predictions of automated classifiers. We present a topic and genre analysis using GATE Cloud, indicative of the prevalence of satire-like text in the corpus. We then use the subjectivity analyzer VAGO, and a neural version of it, to clarify the link between ascriptions of the label Subjective and ascriptions of the label Fake News.

AI gives birth to AI: Scientists say machine intelligence now capable of replicating without humans

FOX News

A group of scientists from across the U.S. claim to have created the first artificial intelligence capable of generating AI without human supervision. Artificial intelligence models can now create smaller AI systems without the help of a human, according to research published Friday by a group of scientists who said the project was the first of its kind. Essentially, larger AI models -- like the kind that power ChatGPT -- can create smaller, more specific AI applications that can be used in everyday life, a collaboration between Aizip Inc. and scientists at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and several University of California campuses demonstrated. Those specialized models could help improve hearing aids, monitor oil pipelines and track endangered species. WHAT IS ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE (AI)?

'I would never use AI': Americans detail how much they use artificial intelligence in their daily lives

FOX News

Texas residents share how familiar they are with artificial intelligence on a scale from one to 10 and detailed how much they use it each day. AUSTIN, Texas – Americans in the Lone Star state shared how familiar they are with artifical intelligence and how much they use the rapidly evolving technology. "I like to use ChatGPT just for stupid questions that I have or just to mess around or something like that," Gabriel, of Austin, told Fox News. AI has rapidly evolved in recent months, with tools like ChatGPT becoming more accessible and easier to use for the broader public. But the majority of people who spoke with Fox News said they didn't use AI technologies in their daily lives.

'Absolutely not': Americans weigh in on whether Kamala Harris can lead on AI after Elon Musk mocked her

FOX News

D.C. residents said they don't trust Vice President Kamala Harris to lead the White House's response to artificial intelligence. WASHINGTON, D.C. – Vice President Kamala Harris wouldn't be able to effectively run the White House's response to artificial intelligence if she's charged with leading it, some residents of the nation's capital told Fox News. "I don't know if Kamala Harris has the background and the tech knowledge to really get a grasp on what AI can do and what its capabilities are, to be able to wrangle it in a space that is safe for everyone and not just beneficial for large corporations," Eric told Fox News. Vice President Kamala has been involved with the White House's AI efforts. But another D.C. local, Marlena, said: "I definitely trust her on the task force. She's a brilliant woman, extraordinarily accomplished."

AI expert taps UN officials to learn how to build a global AI regulatory body

FOX News

Another challenge: Forming an AI regulatory body on a global scale would require significant funding. "We need money," he said. "We need some philanthropists probably to get us started." "It's still a very long road," Marcus told Fox News. "It's a big ask, but I think the time for it is right."

Google's New A.I. Search Engine Should Leave the Media Very Worried

Slate

This article is from Big Technology, a newsletter by Alex Kantrowitz. At Google's I/O developer conference this week, the company showed an experimental version of its search engine handling an almost unimaginably difficult query. Asked whether a family with kids under three years old and a dog would prefer Arches National Park or Bryce Canyon, Google scoured the internet and returned a lengthy, detailed answer. It noted that while only Bryce had paths that allowed dogs, kids might love the rock formations at Arches, and that Arches still had plenty of dog-friendly campgrounds, pullouts, and roads. "Now, search does the heavy lifting for you," said Google Search VP Cathy Edwards.
