Delivery evolution and blood-based diets among 2030 forecasts
But, as we close in on 2020, serious forecasts for the year 2030 are starting to emerge, with two dropping only this week. The first, from the National Restaurant Association in America, is a report on the projected state of the US restaurant industry. The second, from global market research firm Mintel, is a look at predicted consumer trends across the globe. In our recent Food Trends 2020 whitepaper, we highlighted three key macro trends ripe for evolution, with plant-based developments, cuisines from the Asia-Pacific region and healthy eating/nutritional focus all expected to progress in the UK next year. In 2030, aside from the expected advances in AI, VR and other abbreviated futurisms, some of the most interesting predictions stem from the likes of wellbeing and veganism, with farming, delivery and the very definition of a'restaurant' all cropping up.

Five Chinese Consumer Trends for Brands to Look for in 2018
As China continues to steam ahead, marketers looking to carve out a slice of the pie should be mindful of consumer trends in the world's most populous consumer market. Market research & insight firm, Mintel, has released their take on what to look for in terms of the key consumer trends that will have the greatest impact in China for the coming year. One takeaway we found most interesting was the increasing sophistication of younger consumers and how they expect brands to interact with them. "Higher levels of social stress are driving China's youngest generations to demand more informal and playful interactions in both the virtual and physical world," said the report. This, along with other insights in the report, make clear that brands should take heed of China's ever-evolving segments and what road they are most comfortable taking on their customer journey.
Data-driven spinning class? How tech is revolutionising fitness
It's Monday lunchtime and gym-goers at Virgin Active in Moorgate, London, are grabbing a bike for their group cycle class. But this isn't any ordinary spin class, where the teacher enthusiastically shouts instructions like "sprint" and "climb" and the backdrop is an uninspiring grey wall. This is the "Pack", a class divided into three teams that compete in a series of interactive challenges while each rider's bike data is tracked in real-time and projected on to a screen. "We created the Pack in response to the growing demand for cycle-based classes and technology that tracks workout progress," says Virgin Active group chief information officer Andy Caddy. "It creates a wholly differentiated group cycle offering."
