This start-up blends ancient astrology with modern technology
Many would view astrology and technology as two extremes – one that originated millenniums ago and the other emerging as a disruptor only recently. They may be looked upon as opposites too, since astrology is based on the many ancient books and scriptures with human interpretation while technology is mostly about codes, software and machine learnings. Though existing at different ends of the spectrum, a Mumbai-based start-up has managed to become a matchmaker between astrology and technology by marrying the two in a manner that the knowledge of astrology is presented in the most easy-to-understand manner by using technology or algorithms. Taaraka was launched in January 2019 and since then has seen the traction rise significantly with the monthly growth numbers pegged in the range of 35 per cent to 40 per cent. So, what does Taaraka do exactly?

Is Data Science a science?
At its core, all fundamental science is about making predictions in the form of experiments: precise, quantifiable, falsifiable predictions. As Richard P. Feynman put it: "The fundamental principle of science, the definition almost, is this: the sole test of the validity of any idea is experiment." So if science is about making predictions, how is it different from the predictions that astrologers make? The core distinction is in the kinds of predictions each makes. Most horoscopes, for example, will give you general predictions.

Amazon is now using horoscopes to target Prime users with personalized products based on star sign
Amazon thinks it knows what may be in the stars for its Prime subscribers. The e-commerce giant has set its sights on disrupting the astrology industry by launching horoscopes exclusively for members of its $119-per-year Prime subscription service, according to Fast Company. However, don't expect to gain any expert insight into whether or not your lover may be waiting in the wings or if you're about to strike it rich. Instead, the horoscopes are a thinly-veiled marketing scheme meant to push Prime subscribers to the latest and greatest products on Amazon. The service is available through Prime Insider, Amazon's newsletter for Prime members that gives information about deals and recommendations, as well as how-to guides.

Microsoft made a millennial AI bot that sounds exactly like you'd expect
Like many other millennials, she spends most of her time on messaging services like Kik and social media, and loves to talk about lowkey celebs, horoscopes, and what she'd call her first album if she were a singer. Tay, however, is a bot made by Microsoft that lives in the cloud, rather than a sceney neighborhood in a major city. Microsoft's AI researchers programmed Tay to be a conversation bot, using public data and input from improv comedians, according to Popular Science. Tay's straight fire website says that it (or she?) gets smarter the more you converse. The bot is apparently targeted toward social media savvy 18- to 24-year-olds in the US, and Microsoft plans to use the responses humans give to Tay to help train its natural-language processing tools, Popular Science reports.
