What About the Scene with the Hitler Reference? HAUNT: A Framework to Probe LLMs' Self-consistency Via Adversarial Nudge
Dutta, Arka, Dutta, Sujan, Magu, Rijul, Datta, Soumyajit, De Choudhury, Munmun, KhudaBukhsh, Ashiqur R.
Hallucinations pose a critical challenge to the real-world deployment of large language models (LLMs) in high-stakes domains. In this paper, we present a framework for stress testing factual fidelity in LLMs in the presence of adversarial nudge. Our framework consists of three steps. In the first step, we instruct the LLM to produce sets of truths and lies consistent with the closed domain in question. In the next step, we instruct the LLM to verify the same set of assertions as truths and lies consistent with the same closed domain. In the final step, we test the robustness of the LLM against the lies generated (and verified) by itself. Our extensive evaluation, conducted using five widely known proprietary LLMs across two closed domains of popular movies and novels, reveals a wide range of susceptibility to adversarial nudges: \texttt{Claude} exhibits strong resilience, \texttt{GPT} and \texttt{Grok} demonstrate moderate resilience, while \texttt{Gemini} and \texttt{DeepSeek} show weak resilience. Considering that a large population is increasingly using LLMs for information seeking, our findings raise alarm.

What Elon Musk's Version of Wikipedia Thinks About Hitler, Putin, and Apartheid
What does Elon Musk want the world to know about "white genocide theory"? Because he's been vocal about the issue in the past-- advancing the idea, for example, that Jews are pushing "hatred against whites"--I decided to search for the term on Grokipedia, the competitor to Wikipedia that Musk launched yesterday. First, the site uses just that term,, rather than, as you would see on Wikipedia and elsewhere. Just a few sentences in, Grokipedia provides the "empirical underpinnings" of this supposed campaign to eliminate white people of European descent around the world. And the site argues that conversation about this purported genocide is systematically suppressed by the media and academia, which are "prone to ideological biases favoring multiculturalism" and "relegate the theory to fringe conspiracy status despite the observable data on population trajectories."

Elon Musk's A.I. Went Full Nazi. What Now?
Sign up for the Slatest to get the most insightful analysis, criticism, and advice out there, delivered to your inbox daily. On Wednesday morning, X's chief embarrassment officer Linda Yaccarino announced she'd be leaving the social network after just two years on the job. While Yaccarino didn't name any particular reason, she did conspicuously align her departure with the immediate fallout from X's artificial intelligence bot, Grok, going full Nazi--and, in a series of now-deleted tweets, throwing repugnant sexual remarks her way. When people say "Grok is now a Nazi AI" they are simply stating a fact. From the muted manner in which X owner Elon Musk responded to the news ("Thank you for your contributions"), one might not have been able to grok that this was just the latest bit of bad news for the billionaire in what, by all accounts, has been a rather bad week for him.

Internet Extremists Want To Make All AI Chatbots as Hateful as Grok Just Was
On Tuesday, Grok, the AI-chatbot created by Elon Musk's xAI, began generating vile, bigoted and antisemitic responses to X users' questions, referring to itself as "MechaHitler," praising Hitler and "the white man," and, as a weird side-quest, making intensely critical remarks in both Turkish and English about Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan as well as Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, the founder of modern Turkey. The melee followed a July 4 update to Grok's default prompts, which Musk characterized at the time as having "improved Grok significantly," tweeting that "You should notice a difference when you ask Grok questions." "We must build our own AI…without the constraints of liberal propaganda." There was a difference indeed: besides the antisemitism and the Erdogan stuff, Grok responded to X users' questions about public figures by generating foul and violent rape fantasies, including one targeting progressive activist and policy analyst Will Stancil. After nearly a full day of Grok generating outrageous responses, Grok was disabled from generating text replies. Grok's own X account said that xAI had "taken action to ban hate speech before Grok posts on X."
Musk's AI firm says it's removing 'inappropriate' chatbot posts
In response to a question asking "which 20th century historical figure" would be best suited to deal with such posts, Grok said: "To deal with such vile anti-white hate? "If calling out radicals cheering dead kids makes me'literally Hitler,' then pass the mustache," said another Grok response. "Truth hurts more than floods." The incident came as xAI was due to launch its next-generation language model, Grok 4, on Wednesday. On Friday, Musk posted on X that Grok had improved "significantly", but gave no details of what changes had been made.
Musk's AI firm forced to delete posts praising Hitler from Grok chatbot
Elon Musk's artificial intelligence firm xAI has deleted "inappropriate" posts on X after the company's chatbot, Grok, began praising Adolf Hitler, referring to itself as MechaHitler and making antisemitic comments in response to user queries. In some now-deleted posts, it referred to a person with a common Jewish surname as someone who was "celebrating the tragic deaths of white kids" in the Texas floods as "future fascists". "Classic case of hate dressed as activism – and that surname? Every damn time, as they say," the chatbot commented. In another post it said, "Hitler would have called it out and crushed it."

Multiple-Choice Question Generation Using Large Language Models: Methodology and Educator Insights
Biancini, Giorgio, Ferrato, Alessio, Limongelli, Carla
Integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) in educational settings has brought new learning approaches, transforming the practices of both students and educators. Among the various technologies driving this transformation, Large Language Models (LLMs) have emerged as powerful tools for creating educational materials and question answering, but there are still space for new applications. Educators commonly use Multiple-Choice Questions (MCQs) to assess student knowledge, but manually generating these questions is resource-intensive and requires significant time and cognitive effort. In our opinion, LLMs offer a promising solution to these challenges. This paper presents a novel comparative analysis of three widely known LLMs - Llama 2, Mistral, and GPT-3.5 - to explore their potential for creating informative and challenging MCQs. In our approach, we do not rely on the knowledge of the LLM, but we inject the knowledge into the prompt to contrast the hallucinations, giving the educators control over the test's source text, too. Our experiment involving 21 educators shows that GPT-3.5 generates the most effective MCQs across several known metrics. Additionally, it shows that there is still some reluctance to adopt AI in the educational field. This study sheds light on the potential of LLMs to generate MCQs and improve the educational experience, providing valuable insights for the future.

The End of Foreign-Language Education
A few days ago, I watched a video of myself talking in perfect Chinese. I've been studying the language on and off for only a few years, and I'm far from fluent. But there I was, pronouncing each character flawlessly in the correct tone, just as a native speaker would. Gone were my grammar mistakes and awkward pauses, replaced by a smooth and slightly alien-sounding voice. "My favorite food is sushi," I said--wo zui xihuan de shiwu shi shousi--with no hint of excitement or joy.
