AI can combat Colonial Pipeline-like cyberattacks that cripple hospitals, critical services: expert

FOX News

The FBI continues to investigate a ransomware attack that crippled a major hospital network across four states earlier this month. Prospect Medical Holdings, which operates 16 hospitals in California, Connecticut, Pennsylvania and Rhode Island (as well as 166 outpatient clinics and centers), was attacked earlier this month.

Cloud Services Enable Efficient AI-Guided Simulation Workflows across Heterogeneous Resources

arXiv.org Artificial Intelligence

Applications that fuse machine learning and simulation can benefit from the use of multiple computing resources, with, for example, simulation codes running on highly parallel supercomputers and AI training and inference tasks on specialized accelerators. Here, we present our experiences deploying two AI-guided simulation workflows across such heterogeneous systems. A unique aspect of our approach is our use of cloud-hosted management services to manage challenging aspects of cross-resource authentication and authorization, function-as-a-service (FaaS) function invocation, and data transfer. We show that these methods can achieve performance parity with systems that rely on direct connection between resources. We achieve parity by integrating the FaaS system and data transfer capabilities with a system that passes data by reference among managers and workers, and a user-configurable steering algorithm to hide data transfer latencies. We anticipate that this ease of use can enable routine use of heterogeneous resources in computational science.

How Conversational AI Automates Travel Insurance Inquiries

#artificialintelligence

Meet Globus: an advanced virtual agent developed by Topdanmark and Deloitte that is helping redefine customer service in the insurance sector. Nordic insurance customers are among some of the most tech-savvy in the world. According to a recent market survey, over 90 percent of consumers in Sweden, Denmark, Norway, and Finland revealed that they regularly use the internet to cover their insurance needs. Unsurprisingly, the insurance sector is, therefore, one of the biggest global spenders in the Artificial Intelligence space, investing, on average, $124 million across underwriting, claims processing and, importantly, customer service. Denmark's second-largest insurer, Topdanmark, was quick to acknowledge this digital shift in its customer base.

Argonne Leverages HPC And Machine Learning To Accelerate Science

#artificialintelligence

In 2021, the Argonne Leadership Computing Facility (ALCF) is planning to deploy Aurora A21, a new Intel-Cray system, slated to be the first exascale supercomputer in the United States. Aurora will be equipped with advanced capabilities for modeling and simulation, data science, and machine learning, which will allow scientists to tackle much larger and more complex problems than are possible today. To prepare for the exascale era, Argonne researchers are exploring new services and frameworks that will improve collaboration across scientific communities, eliminate barriers to productively using next-generation systems like Aurora, and integrate with user workflows to produce seamless, user-friendly environments. One area of focus is the development of a service that will help researchers make sense of the increasingly massive datasets produced by large-scale simulations and experiments. Ian Foster, director of Argonne's Data Science and Learning Division, is leading a team of researchers from Argonne and Globus to develop a pilot of a lab-wide service that will make it easier to access, share, analyze, and reuse large-scale datasets.

3 Fascinating Companies Using AI to Forge New Advances in Healthcare

#artificialintelligence

When you think of artificial intelligence (AI), you might not immediately think of the healthcare sector. However, that would be a mistake. AI has the potential to do everything from predicting readmissions, cutting human error and managing epidemics to assisting surgeons to carry out complex operations. Here we take a closer look at three intriguing stocks using AI to forge new advances in treating and tackling disease. To pinpoint these three stocks, we used TipRanks' data to scan for'Strong Buy' stocks in the healthcare sector.
