iPhone shipments could be delayed after a virus affects computer chip manufacturer
The computer virus outbreak tore through the Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co Ltd (TSMC) factory, but is now being contained, analysts claim. TSMC is the world's largest contract chipmaker and revealed over the weekend that the virus had infected a number of its computer systems and fab tools. The firm has said it hopes to make a full recovery later today as it had safeguards in place for this exact scenario. The company blamed the infection of its computer systems on'misoperation during the software installation process' for new equipment, it revealed in a statement. The virus was found to be in the equipment and didn't come from a hack or cyberattack. Mark Li, an analyst at Sanford C. Bernstein, said in a report that Apple was one of the impacted customers but a swift recovery in the fourth quarter should minimise the impact.
