Machine Learning: The Evolution of AI and Design
Computer-gaming pioneer Arthur Samuel once defined "machine learning" as "a field of study that gives computers the ability to learn without being explicitly programmed." But for some people, the meaning takes a negative turn--as in what happens in dystopian movies after computers have conquered humanity. But the future of machine learning doesn't have to be a doom-and-gloom scenario. Autodesk CTO Jeff Kowalski--who pursues innovative ideas on the horizon rather than trends of the moment--envisions a more positive outcome for humans and artificial intelligence (AI). Here, he talks about how machine learning is accelerating the progress of robotics, generative design, and the Internet of Things, transforming the way things are designed and made.
