Japan's Fifth Generation AI is notable. They thought they had figured out how to do AI; just put the use the rules of mathematical logic (logic programming) into a computer and you will get StrongAI. But this is a simplistic view of how intelligence works. Today these shortcomings are referred to as Philosopher's Disease. The first outbreak was with Aristotle and his friends.
