AI can predict whether a patient is going to die

The medical machines of the future will be able to predict when you will die by analysing images of your organs, according to a new study. Researchers have developed an artificial intelligence system that can tell which patients will die almost as accurately as trained specialists. It is the first study of its kind that uses medical images and artificial intelligence to show how machine can spot things some doctors can't. The findings could lead to earlier detection and treatment of a wide range of serious illnesses. An AI system developed by the University of Adelaide is able to predict whether a patient will die within five years by analysing data gathered from CT scans (pictured) of their chests.
