Science in the 2010s: Artificial Intelligence

#artificialintelligence

While the foundations for deep learning sate to the 1980s, researchers George Dahl and Abdel-rahman Mohamed broke new ground in 2010 when they developed advanced deep learning speech recognition tools. This paved the way for more deep learning advances focusing on anything from facial recognition to machine translation. In 2011 a question-answering computer system developed by IBM's DeepQA project made headlines when it outplayed Brad Rutter and Ken Jennings, two of the most successful contestants to take part in the popular American game show Jeopardy! Artificial intelligence took another stride forward in October 2011 when Apple launched Siri, it's signature personal assistant. From reciting the weather forecast to plotting a route on Google Maps, Siri is now used by hundreds of millions of people around the world.

Data Science In Banking: 5 Use Cases For Banks -

#artificialintelligence

Applying data science technologies like AI, NLP, and machine learning algorithms can help banks in several areas like fraud detection, risk management, customer sentiment analysis, and personalized marketing. Data science is disrupting the banking sector like never before. Banks are sitting on piles of data and harnessing the volumes of data is helping banks in various ways, from process automation, process improvements to exploring new delivery models and introducing new services. Every year financial institutions are spending billions against fraud detection applications, as it may hurt the company's brand and reputation. Data science plays a key role in collecting, summarizing, and predicting the customer database to detect fraudulent activities.

Does artificial intelligence have a gender?

#artificialintelligence

Artificial Intelligence is using advances to help medical professionals detect and treat cancers; emergency responders predict and prepare for impending natural disasters; police identify criminals and safely disarm bombs; organisations improve products, services and processes and school children receive tailored help from virtual teachers suited to their learning style. Through the use of robots and software agents, the machine may even perform these tasks alone or as a team member collaborating with humans. If we are going to build machines that play roles that simulate human reasoning, behaviour and activities, as a society we should ensure that those machines benefit all members of society, regardless of their age, gender, religion or status in society, rather than replicate human biases, perpetuate disparities or widen the gap between the haves and have nots. If AI is a simulation of human intelligence, who does it simulate and does it have a gender? Whether you view gender as socially constructed by one's environment and culture, a biologically determined factor as in the essentialist perspective, or adhere to the theory of individual differences, gender plays a role in who we are.

Have you ever met an'ARTIFICIAL'?#NEON While the teasers and NEON.Life website do not give much away, the project comes from Samsung STAR Labs, who's remit is "to secure cutting-edge AI core technologies and platforms--human-level AI with the ability to speak, recognize, and think--to provide new AI-driven experiences and value to its customers." The same team also contributes to Bixby, suggesting NEON is an offshoot of that work.

AI year in review: Opportunities grow, but ethics loom large

#artificialintelligence

Artificial intelligence garnered a lot of attention from the usual players -- governments, tech giants, and academics -- throughout 2019. But it was also a big year for business AI, with even more growth expected ahead. In a March KPMG survey, more than half of business executives said their company would implement enterprise-scale AI within two years. That is partly what drives PwC estimates that AI will deliver $15.7 trillion to the global economy by 2030. Impressive leaps in 2019 have enabled new business applications for virtual assistants, such as Salesforce's updated Einstein Voice Assistant for sales and customer service apps and IBM's intelligent agent Watson Assistant.

Eventually, content focused on any area plateaus and becomes repetitive, unimpressive and ineffective. The initial freshness of a topic wears off, and marketers are forced to deliver commonplace posts that reiterate widely-known information and don't really solve readers' problems. Few content creators truly address this problem by creating fresh and beneficial content based on new data, while most others simply recycle and rehash existing information to keep up with content demand. With AI, marketers can satisfy the content demand, create hyper-personalized content and ensure targeted delivery. Here's a summary of 5 such ways in which AI will redefine content creation and delivery.
