Google brings Lens text translations to KaiOS phones in India
One of the more useful features you can access through Assistant on Android and iOS is Google Lens translations. The tool allows you to snap a photo of something in the real world and let Lens transcribe the text into a language you can read. Google is now making that functionality available on KaiOS phones in India. KaiOS, if you need a refresher, is an operating system for feature phones that includes select Google services. As of last year, the software was running on more than 80 million devices globally.
You can finally stream Netflix on a Google Nest Hub or Hub Max smart display
The Google smart display in your kitchen or bedroom is perfect for watching YouTube TV, Hulu, or casting Disney, but up until now, it hasn't been able to play video from the most popular streaming service on the planet: Netflix. Google just announced that its Google Nest Hub and Hub Max will be the first smart displays to support Netflix. Google says that Netflix on the Nest Hub and Nest Hub Max will start rolling out today, and it will be supported anywhere that Netflix and the two Google smart displays are available. To watch Netflix on your Nest Hub or Hub Max, just go to the Google Home app and link your Netflix account. You can do so by tapping the " " button in the top-left corner of the Google Home interface and selecting Video under the Add services heading.
Jasco Enbrighten Zigbee In-Wall Smart Dimmer review: Wiring novice? Jasco's idiot-proof switch has you covered
Jasco's new Enbrighten in-wall Zigbee smart lighting controls take some of the guesswork out of home wiring, an experience that can be daunting for the uninitiated. While the black wire is typically the "line" wire (the one bringing electricity to the switch), and the red wire is typically the "load" wire (the one carrying electricity to the light fixture), you're just as likely to discover that the line and load wires are both black. Reverse the line and load wires and the switch won't work. A voltage tester will tell you which wire is which, but since most people don't own one of those tools, they fall back to trial and error: 50/50 isn't bad odds, right? Wire up one of Jasco's Enbrighten in-wall dimmer or switches and Jasco's SimpleWire technology will automatically detect which wire is line and which is load, rendering those terminals interchangeable.
How Recommendation Systems Have Transformed Over Years
Netflix and Prime have such engrossing content that keeps us glued to the screen all the time. There is a section on both of these platforms which displays the recommended content on the basis of the previous content that you have watched. These recommendations seem to be quite relevant to your watch history and the kind of content you would want to engage yourselves with. How this works in the background is by designing certain recommendation systems. Recommendation systems are a set of algorithms which give you recommendations based on your history.
'Alexa, I love you': how lockdown made men lust after their Amazon Echo
I don't like where this is going. Lockdown has changed society in many ways. One of those is that men now fall in love with their Amazon Echos. A survey has determined that 14% of men admit to being turned on by Alexa, Amazon Echo's proprietary voice recognition software. But โฆ But the survey asked only 1,000 people โ and it was commissioned by We-Vibe, a company that sells app-enabled sex toys, so we probably shouldn't assume that 14% of men everywhere are getting their rocks off to Alexa.
Smart speakers could be listening in on government secrets, UK civil servants warned
Civil servants working from home during the coronavirus pandemic have been warned to disable their smart speakers. These devices constantly listen for their trigger word, such as "Alexa", "Hey Google", or "Hey Siri", before listening actively for commands. However, these devices have been found to occasionally activate without the wake word. Last year, an Alexa device even managed to record a private conversation and send it to another user without anyone's knowledge. At the time, Amazon said the reason was a series of statements its voice assistant mistook for commands.

Alexa and Google Assistant execs on future trends for AI assistants
Businesses and developers making conversational AI experiences should start with the understanding that you're going to have to use unsupervised learning to scale, said Prem Natarajan, Amazon head of product and VP of Alexa AI and NLP. He spoke with Barak Turovsky, Google AI director of product for the NLU team, at VentureBeat's Transform 2020 AI conference today as part of a conversation about future trends for AI assistants. Natarajan called unsupervised learning for language models an important trend for AI assistants and an essential part of creating conversational AI that works for everyone. "Don't wait for the unsupervised learning realization to come to you yet again. Start from the understanding that you're going to have to use unsupervised learning at some level of scale," he said.

Personal assistant charged in dismembered tech CEO's killing
A personal assistant arrested Friday in the death and dismemberment of a 33-year-old tech entrepreneur was believed to have owed his boss a "significant amount of money," New York City police said. Tyrese Haspil faces a murder charge in the death of Fahim Saleh, whose beheaded, armless body was found Tuesday by a cousin who had gone to his luxury Manhattan condo to check on him. Haspil, 21, handled finances and personal matters for Saleh, whose ventures included a ride-hailing service in Africa. Haspil, who grew up on Long Island and lived in Brooklyn, was taken into police custody Friday morning in the lobby of another luxury apartment building several blocks from where Saleh was killed, NYPD Chief of Detectives Rodney Harrison said. Information on Haspil's arraignment or a lawyer who could speak on his behalf was not immediately available.
