From AI bots that can identify, evaluate, and make recommendations for streamlining business processes to cybersecurity systems that continuously monitor data input patterns in order to thwart cyberattacks, AI repeatedly has demonstrated its capacity for processing and analyzing reams of data faster and more accurately than a human ever could.

You might ask: what do artificial intelligence (AI) and AI-based tools have to do with customer experience (CX)? Here's what -- when asked which technologies most improve customer experience, 34% of sales and marketing leaders believe AI is the biggest game-changer. What's more, 73% of global consumers say they are open to businesses using AI if it makes life easier. From these stats (and hundreds more), it's evident that AI is here to stay. Be it inventory management, product design, marketing or even a simple email pitch, AI has helped eCommerce brands advance in leaps and bounds.

The Lapsus$ digital extortion group is the latest to mount a high-profile data-stealing rampage against major tech companies. And among other things, the group is known for grabbing and leaking source code at every opportunity, including from Samsung, Qualcomm, and Nvidia. At the end of March, alongside revelations that they had breached an Okta subprocessor, the hackers also dropped a trove of data containing portions of the source code for Microsoft's Bing, Bing Maps, and its Cortana virtual assistant. Businesses, governments, and other institutions have been plagued by ransomware attacks, business email compromise, and an array other breaches in recent years. Researchers say, though, that while source code leaks may seem catastrophic, and certainly aren't good, they typically aren't the worst-case scenario of a criminal data breach.

Machine Learning has been around since the early days of computer science and has gained notable traction as more & more people begin to realize how advanced it's becoming. Today, Machine Learning algorithms apply to various fields, including some of the most common problems. As per Statista, the most wide-scale application of AI & ML in 2021 lies in enhancing the customer experience with a popularity of 57%. It gets followed by'generating customer insights' with 50% favor. AI & ML remains at the top of the most disruptive technologies worldwide.

Graph databases like Neo4j are an excellent tool for creating recommendation engines. They allow us to examine a large context of a data point potentially comprising various data sources. Their powerful storage model is very well suited for applications where we want to analyze the direct surrounding of a node. In this article, I describe how we implemented a simple recommendation engine directly in Neo4j using only Cypher. The approach bases on basic NLP and simple conditional probabilities to find the most likely matching item.
