Aiden closes $750,000 seed round in its quest to amplify marketers

#artificialintelligence

Aiden, a London-based startup building a machine learning-powered personal assistant to save mobile marketers time and money, closed a $750,000 seed round today from Kima Ventures and a number of angels including Nicolas Pinto, Pierre Valade and Jonathan Wolf. In recent years, marketers have begun to suffer information paralysis from the flood of new monitoring platforms on the market. Rather than create an entirely new end-to-end solution, Aiden merely wants to help marketers get at the data they need faster. The Aiden conversational assistant aims to make querying for key performance metrics as easy as checking the weather on Amazon Alexa. From a technical perspective, the team is focusing their efforts in two places -- natural language processing and expert systems.

Samsung Galaxy S8 hides home button and gains Bixby AI

BBC News

Samsung's latest flagship phones have ditched the physical home button found in their predecessors and introduced a new virtual assistant. The screens of the Galaxy S8 and bigger S8 are also larger despite the devices being smaller than last year's S7 and S7 Edge. This time, both models feature displays that curve round the phones' sides. The launch follows Samsung's botched release of the Note 7, which was recalled twice after fires. The South Korean firm blamed the problem on battery faults and said it had since put in additional safety measures, including X-ray scans of batteries.

Samsung's Galaxy S8 phone aims to dispel the Note 7 debacle

Boston Herald

Samsung seems to be playing it safe with its first major smartphone since the embarrassing recall of its fire-prone Note 7. The Galaxy S8 features a larger display than its predecessor, the Galaxy S7, and sports a voice assistant intended to rival Siri and Google Assistant. But there is no increase in battery capacity, providing the battery more breathing room. The Note 7 pushed the engineering envelope with its battery, which contributed to a series of spontaneous smartphone combustions. The Galaxy S8 will come in two sizes, both bigger than last year's models. Both models have screens that curve around the edges and get rid of the physical home button. The Note 7 recall cost Samsung at least $5.3 billion.

Samsung Galaxy S8: Why you should choose it over the iPhone 7

The Independent - Tech

Samsung has launched the highly anticipated Galaxy S8, the latest - and quite possibly the greatest - flagship mobile on the market. For many consumers, the battle for smartphone supremacy has long been a war between Apple and Samsung. However, early impressions suggest the South Korean firm has blown all of its rivals away with its latest device. If you're looking to purchase a new high-end handset, here's why you should choose the Samsung Galaxy S8 over the iPhone 7. Apple's biggest advantage over all of its competitors has traditionally been design, but that's no longer the case. The iPhone 4, launched way back in 2010, is to date the best-looking version of the iPhone.

The Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus pack big changes into gorgeous bodies

Engadget

Samsung officially revealed the new Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus here in New York, and it seems safe to say that we got what we expected. The lack of a home button; the new AI assistant; the near bezel-less, curved screens; the rear-mounted fingerprint sensors -- all the leaks were true. What ultimately matters more than the lack of surprises are ambition and keen execution, and Samsung clearly embraced both when building the S8s. It's a good thing too: After the Galaxy Note 7's rise and fiery fall, Samsung needed to prove that it could craft some flawless smartphones. Well, I'm not sure about flawless, but the S8 and S8 Plus are both gorgeous and full-featured -- for now, the good certainly seems to outweigh the bad.

Samsung's Bixby AI assistant can see as well as talk

Engadget

With its latest Galaxy S8 and S8 smartphones, Samsung also launched its very own AI assistant, Bixby. We know what you're thinking -- do I really need yet another Android helper bot like Google Assistant or even Cortana vying for my attention? Actually, Bixby might prove to be useful for Galaxy S8 owners than we expected, thanks to to its tight integration with the smartphones' hardware. Bixby has its own access button on the Galaxy S8 that helps you navigate services, apps and more via voice, touch and text commands. It also comes with a card-centric user interface that looks a lot like Google's former Now app, letting you save cards as reminders for later use.

Samsung Galaxy 8 Event: Analyst Quick Take

Forbes - Tech

Infinity Display and design: Ten years ago, designers did mockups of what phones would look in the distant future as one slab of glass. The S8 is the closest phone yet that represents that vision. The 5.8" and 6.2" are not only large display, but have incredibly-high resolutions of 2960x1440 (Quad HD) with 570 and 529 PPI (pixels per inch). The Infinity Display is stunning and I'm looking forward to seeing how this performs with the GearVR where PPI is paramount to the experience. DeX docking: There have been many attempts at smartphone-to-PC modularity and each one gets better.
