Get ready to ditch your remote. Amazon on Thursday announced the Fire TV Cube, a hands-free streaming box that comes with Alexa built in and lets you control your TV. Unlike Amazon's other entertainment-focused offering, the Fire Stick, the Fire TV Cube is meant to be hub for not just playing Netflix and Hulu, but also turning on cable TV and smart home devices. The Fire TV Cube starts at $119.99 and is available for pre-order beginning on Thursday, before shipping on June 21. It's unclear if or when the device will be available globally, but Amazon is running a few different promotions alongside the Fire TV Cube's release.

I know what you're thinking: Do people actually keep their Amazon Echos in the bathroom? Honestly, I don't definitively know the answer to that question, but there's some compelling evidence that they do. Exhibit A: The following seven Alexa skills exist, and they're most logically used in the bathroom. I mean, one is even called "Bathroom Buddy," so yeah, I think it's fair to say some people do have smart speakers in the bathroom. If you already have an Echo in your bathroom (you forward thinker, you) or you're thinking about putting one there, the following are several ways Alexa can make the experience even better.

If digital assistants ate lunch together, Alexa and Google Assistant would be at the cool kids' table. Everyone from Spotify to Starbucks to Lyft to TED Talks wants to sit with them. Apple's Siri, on the other hand, would probably sit off by itself, largely overshadowed by the other digital assistants in features and functionality. Sonos Inc. has announced its new smart speaker, called Beam. The home-theater device is said to feature Amazon's Alexa voice assistant and Apple's new AirPlay 2 technology at launch. Sonos introduced Beam during a Wednesday event. According to the Santa Barbara, California-based consumer electronics company, the upcoming smart speaker is designed to sit below a television set and replace the speakers that are built into existing TVs. Because it has Alexa, users can rely on the voice assistant to control Beam if they don't have a physical remote on hand.
