I don't know about you all, but personally I've found that machine learning processes to be ad-hoc and fragmented. Things are sort of the wild, wild west. So, I decided to put together a round table on the topic: "The ML Process: From Idea to Production". The goal is to setup a place where people can share and learn from each other. It works like this: people are broken up into groups of 5-7 people based on their team size and what they are working on so they can have relevant discussions.

Support Vector Machines can be a lot slow to run on large datasets. With more data, the speedup increases proportionally which is great for use. In the last week, we saw the markets close at another all-time high. They were lifted by Apple which surged on 5.1% to an all-time high on Friday. The S&P 500 ended up at 3,397, a new record closing high, while the Nasdaq NDAQ ended at 11,311, also a record close. Helping markets were the economic updates, with HIS Markit INFO showing US manufacturing activity hitting its highest level in 19 months, while services were at their highest level in 17 months. Also helping was the existing-home sales data for July, which saw a record month-to-month acceleration of 24.7%, and the average selling price for homes setting a new bar at $304,100.

Last week, many tech publications broke news about a blog generated by artificial intelligence that fooled thousands of users and landed on top of the Hacker News forum. GPT-3, the massive language model developed by AI research lab OpenAI, had written the articles. Since its release in July, GPT-3 has caused a lot of excitement in the AI community. Developers who have received early access to the language model have used to do many interesting things, showing just how far AI research has come. But like many other developments in AI, there's also a lot of hype and misunderstanding surrounding GPT-3, and many of the stories published about it misrepresent its capabilities. The blog written by GPT-3 resurfaced worries about fake news onslaughts, robots deceiving humans, and technological unemployment, which have become the hallmark of AI reporting.
