Artificial intelligence and automation are seeping into our daily working lives -- and female office workers are among those whose jobs are being taken over by machines. That's according to new research provided to ABC News by an Australian teaching organisation that's urging people to upskill so they don't find themselves out of work. Pearson's research looks at roles that are likely to be automated as technology advances. Historically, much of the conversation when it comes to automation has been about robots taking over factory jobs, or even replacing retail assistants in the form of self-service check-outs at supermarkets. Pearson's data also shows the less obvious pictures of automation encroaching into office environments, including for medical receptionists, accountants and personal assistants.

With the pandemic changing the job scenario and opening up newer avenues, upskilling has become a necessity, with a record high of 79 percent of professionals (including freshers) planning to upskill this year. Another 11 percent of respondents said they are considering the option. According to a report by edtech company Great Learning, titled'Upskilling Outlook in India 2022', the emergence of newer domains like Web 3.0, metaverse, NFTs, etc., has propelled this growth. Meanwhile, data science, artificial intelligence (AI), and software development were the top domains for upskilling, with over 43 percent of the respondents expressing their intent in data-focused domains, such as data science, AI, machine learning, and analytics, it added. Based on internal data from Great Learning, a survey was conducted by Pyxis with about 1,000 respondents from cities, including Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Mumbai, and Pune. Respondents were from information technology (IT) and business process management (BPM), banking, education and training, and automobiles, among other industries.

The higher education sector requires an infusion of revenue – and fast. The average aggregate decline in revenues across 2020 and 2021 is estimated at a dramatic 14%, totaling a whopping $183 billion in lost revenue by the beginning of 2021 [1]. To survive, universities must innovate and leverage a market that has a high demand for education at this time-- the alumni market. Alumni markets are 20x the size of undergraduate markets [2]. And only 21% think story telling will be important. In the next 12 months, more than four fifths of respondents are expecting to focus this upskilling on AI, machine learning, coding, analytics and data science capabilities, but a third of respondents accept that their organizations will need to grow their teams to fully implement the new technology, Unit4 said.
