Young People Are Likelier to Trust Artificial Intelligence Over Humans, Says WEF Report
New Delhi, Aug 12: The youth today are more likely to trust an artificial intelligence-run system than one controlled by humans, and they believe the "fractures" in society are manifestations of an underlying political problem, a World Economic Forum (WEF) report has claimed. The report was launched as part of a drive to mark the International Youth Day, which is celebrated on August 12. The WEF drive, called a'Youth-Driven Recovery Plan', saw participation of over two million young people from across countries, including India, who shared their views on what will become the next normal for society, government, and business. Artificial Intelligence is Creating New Opportunities Which Could Not Be Achieved by Traditional Technology, Say Experts. According to the survey, young people believe there is a serious crisis in politics, especially with regards to climate change policies, and income inequality.

Do You Trust Artificial Intelligence?
Artificial intelligence (AI) is everywhere. In a typical day, people likely use AI multiple times without even knowing it: Alexa and Siri, Google Maps, Uber and Lyft, autopilot on commercial flights, spam filters, and smart email categorization (so anyone using Gmail, Yahoo, or Office 365/outlook), mobile check deposits, plagiarism checkers, online searches, personalized recommendations, Facebook, Instagram, and Pinterest are all examples of AI. But what happens when people are being introduced to a new AI technology? How likely are they to trust the new technology? With an interdisciplinary team of researchers from the University of Kansas, we set to find out.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is helping to improve our society, enhance Australia's wellbeing, improve environmental sustainability and create a more equitable, inclusive and fair society. But as we work to reshape government delivery with AI, are we asking the right questions? The role of AI, including policy implications and the nature of industry in society, is being discussed today in a live-stream event co-hosted by the Institute of Public Administration Australia (IPAA) and the Australian Council of Learned Academies (ACOLA). ACOLA CEO Ryan Winn said the event will feature a keynote presentation by Australia's Chief Scientist, Dr Alan Finkel AO and a panel discussion with ACOLA's AI Expert Group and key Government officials leading AI implementation. "The event will give rise to further discussion on the future opportunities and challenges of AI in industry and Government operations and service delivery, and what implications this will have on society for 2030," Mr Winn said.
Report shows consumers don't trust artificial intelligence
A new report released by Pega that examined consumer attitudes towards artificial intelligence indicates that despite the growing usage of AI technologies, consumers lack an understanding of how they can benefit from AI and are more likely to trust a real person to help make decisions. "Our study found that only 25% of consumers would trust a decision made by an AI system over that of a person regarding their qualification for a bank loan," said Dr. Rob Walker, vice president, decisioning and analytics at Pega. "Consumers likely prefer speaking to people because they have a greater degree of trust in them and believe it's possible to influence the decision, when that's far from the case. What's needed is the ability for AI systems to help companies make ethical decisions. To use the same example, in addition to a bank following regulatory processes before making an offer of a loan to an individual it should also be able to determine whether or not it's the right thing to do ethically." As a result of the survey's findings, Pega announced the launch of its Customer Empathy Advisor, an AI tool that seeks to incorporate empathy and ethical-decision making in the framework of AI technologies.
