Quantum computers and future of system administration
Released in 1971, the Intel 4004 was the world's first microprocessor. I was ten years old and watched on TV as David Scott and James Irwin drove a car on the moon. It was the coolest thing I had ever seen, and I could not stop dreaming about what the future would bring. Technology has come a long way since then, and I believe we are now on the threshold of the next gigantic leap, thanks to quantum computers. This article takes an exploratory approach to what awaits us once quantum computers become commercially available. I compare our progress with history and what has been, where quantum computers are today, and onwards.
LPI Blog - Open Source, Artificial Intelligence, and LPI
I'm going to lead with the punchline on this one. I believe that LPI should invest in providing a certification path for some kind of machine learning, specifically geared to open source development in artificial intelligence. Whatever you may think about automation and artificial intelligence from the perspective of what it will eventually mean for humanity, there's no question that some form of artificial intelligence is present in every aspect of our lives. Those of us who own one or more Google Home or Alexa speakers know full well how much AI touches our lives. Smart systems like Google's Assistant are built using TensorFlow ( https://tensorflow.org), an open source programming library that has become a kind of goto set of tools for anyone building machine learning, deep learning, natural language processing (as in your smart speaker), or neural network based applications.
How Machine Learning Will "Fireproof" IT Services in 2017 - insideBIGDATA
In this special guest feature, Sarah Lahav of SysAid Technologies takes a look at machine learning and how it provides a vehicle for "fireproofing" in IT service management – anticipating and preventing problems rather than waiting for them. As the company's first employee, Sarah has remained the vital link between SysAid Technologies and its customers since 2003. She is the current CEO and former VP of Customer Relations at SysAid – two positions that have fueled her passion in customer service. In IT service management, "firefighting" has become a metaphor for much of the work. Someone or something starts a digital fire, and we put it out.
User Behavior Analytics algorithms in practice « DanielBago@Balabit Blog
In my first blogpost, I introduced the basic concept of machine learning and how it contributes to the world of IT security. Now I want to dig deeper and showcase those machine learning algorithms used by Blindspotter, BalaBit's user behavior analytics tool. Blindspotter does not rely on a single "silver bullet of algorithms", but combines eight algorithms to achieve better predictive performance. A well-disguised and well-prepared insider or external attacker may deceive one, two or in rare cases even three algorithms, but it is more than improbable that he or she would able to deceive all of them. Let's see an example, in which Mallory, the malicious senior sysadmin tries to steal valuable intellectual property of her employer and sell it to a competitor. Blindspotter's main concept is the prioritization of security incidents and events.
Artificial Intelligence for Sysadmins
Artificial intelligence (AI) is on a roll. It's happening through developments spurred on by 800 pound tech gorillas like Amazon and IBM, and big brands in transportation like Uber and Jaguar. Before we ponder that further, if you haven't had the time to keep up here are seven recent notches on the artificial intelligence belt…er, chipset. The future of artificial intelligence certainly seems rosy. Peter Norvig, research director at Google, agrees.

Back in 2011, IBM's Watson blew away the human "Jeopardy" champions. IBM is now betting big on Watson once again and cognitive computing opportunities in the health care industry and beyond. Following the success of Apple's intelligent agent Siri, Microsoft's Cortana and Google Now, Amazon's Alexa has garnered a loyal following and is… Link to Full Article: Artificial Intelligence for Sysadmins
