The tug-of-war between engineering and design to build the Hyundai Palisade XRT Pro

Popular Science

The brand toughened up its popular family SUV, but first, the design and engineering team had to agree on the dimensions and recovery hook placement. The 2026 Hyundai Palisade XRT Pro is the most capable trim in the SUV's lineup. Breakthroughs, discoveries, and DIY tips sent every weekday. Every car company, it seems, is looking to present its most versatile face in the form of dirt-ready vehicles. Even models that might not have been off-road appropriate in the past are toughening up to capitalize on the go-outdoors trend that has exploded in the last several years.

Honda's Saloon and Space-Hub EV concepts are now prototypes

Engadget

The futuristic looking concept electric vehicles that Honda had introduced at last year's CES are now much closer to becoming models you can actually buy. Honda has unveiled prototype versions of the 0 Series Saloon sedan and the 0 Series SUV at CES 2025. It also revealed that it will launch their production models next year in North America followed by Japan and Europe. The Honda 0 SUV will be introduced in the first half of 2026 and will be the first model in the lineup to enter production. It's a mid-size SUV that was originally presented as the Space-Hub concept and will be based company's newly developed dedicated EV architecture.

EVs With Built-In Camera Drones Have Already Landed in China

WIRED

Chinese automakers are starting to equip electric cars with camera drones. For now, this drone integration is aimed at content creators who want to collect videos of themselves driving. These systems typically enable one-click filming of a moving vehicle, with the action viewable live on the car's interior display as well as recorded for posterity. The flights can also be voice-controlled by the (distracted) driver. The 150,000 Yangwang U8 plug-in hybrid SUV from BYD, the world's largest maker of electric vehicles, sports a DJI drone stored and charged in a dedicated roof space capped with a Thunderbirds-style slide-away panel.

Text Embedding Inversion Attacks on Multilingual Language Models

Chen, Yiyi, Lent, Heather, Bjerva, Johannes

arXiv.org Artificial Intelligence

Representing textual information as real-numbered embeddings has become the norm in NLP. Moreover, with the rise of public interest in large language models (LLMs), Embeddings as a Service (EaaS) has rapidly gained traction as a business model. This is not without outstanding security risks, as previous research has demonstrated that sensitive data can be reconstructed from embeddings, even without knowledge of the underlying model that generated them. However, such work is limited by its sole focus on English, leaving all other languages vulnerable to attacks by malicious actors. %As many international and multilingual companies leverage EaaS, there is an urgent need for research into multilingual LLM security. To this end, this work investigates LLM security from the perspective of multilingual embedding inversion. Concretely, we define the problem of black-box multilingual and cross-lingual inversion attacks, with special attention to a cross-domain scenario. Our findings reveal that multilingual models are potentially more vulnerable to inversion attacks than their monolingual counterparts. This stems from the reduced data requirements for achieving comparable inversion performance in settings where the underlying language is not known a-priori. To our knowledge, this work is the first to delve into multilinguality within the context of inversion attacks, and our findings highlight the need for further investigation and enhanced defenses in the area of NLP Security.

Investigation launched into complaints of Tesla steering wheels coming off mid-drive

The Guardian

US auto safety regulators have opened an investigation into Tesla's Model Y SUV after getting two complaints that the steering wheels can come off while being driven. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) says the investigation covers an estimated 120,000 vehicles from the 2023 model year. The agency says in both cases the Model Ys were delivered to customers with a missing bolt that holds the wheel to the steering column. A friction fit held the steering wheels on, but they separated when force was exerted while the SUVs were being driven. The agency says in documents posted on its website on Wednesday that both incidents happened while the SUVs had low mileage on them.

Drone video captures part of encounter in which Riverside County deputy was fatally shot

Los Angeles Times

Drone video of a deadly standoff that took the life of a Riverside County sheriff's deputy on Friday appears to capture the suspect being shot by another deputy on the street before the wounded officer is rushed into the back of a sheriff's SUV. The video was posted to YouTube late Friday by a brand new account created the same day. Its owner could not immediately be reached for comment by The Times on Saturday. The video provided the clearest picture yet of the encounter, which took the life of Deputy Darnell Calhoun, 30. The sheriff's department said Calhoun was fatally shot after responding to an "unknown trouble" call about 4:20 p.m. in the 18500 block of Hilldale Lane, a residential area in Lakeland Village.
