CIOs want staff with good soft skills to help drive digital change
Communication skill, not technical knowledge, is the most sought-after attribute for chief information officers (CIOs) looking to digitally transform their organisation. A survey carried out by recruitment consultancy Robert Half revealed that almost three-quarters (74%) of CIOs said communication skills are a top requirement for leading digital transformation, while 52% cited technical knowledge. Half of the 700 executives questioned said demand will increase for people with good communication skills in the next three years, with 30% expecting such recruits to become harder to find. Steve Sully, associate director at, Robert Half Technology UK, said that at one time, soft skills were overlooked and undervalued, but this has changed. "The need to hire technology candidates with both technical and softer attributes, such as communication, flexibility and adaptability, is a fine balance required to adjust in this constant state of digital change," he said.

Your next pilot could be drone software
Would you get on a plane that didn't have a human pilot in the cockpit? Half of air travellers surveyed in 2017 said they would not, even if the ticket was cheaper. Modern pilots do such a good job that almost any air accident is big news, such as the Southwest engine disintegration on April 17. But stories of pilot drunkenness, rants, fights and distraction, however rare, are reminders that pilots are only human. Not every plane can be flown by a disaster-averting pilot, like Southwest Captain Tammie Jo Shults or Captain Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger.

We must automate humanity BankNXT
Building on yesterday's blog, there was another interesting debate about the risk of humans in the network. Humans are not welcome here. A good example of why humans are not welcome is that it's typically human error that causes issue. A self-driving car is likely to drive a million miles without an accident, while a human-driven car crashes three or four times on average throughout the driver's lifetime. I would personally prefer to be operated on by a robotic surgeon with a million successful operations under its belt, rather than a human surgeon who makes a mistake once every 10,000 operations.

GREG GUTFELD Sully could be the last of the human heroes
First, I offer you a review of the movie "Sully" -- and don't worry, there aren't any spoilers. Because you know how the story goes: Birds hit plane. Pilot, nicknamed "Sully," lands plane on Hudson. So how do you make a movie out of something when everyone knows how it turns out? Yes, you can bring up the success of the film "Titanic," but it's not like there was actual footage of that disaster on YouTube.

Hey, Siri: You still have a lot of work to do
Apple says their voice recognition app Siri is improved. USA TODAY's Jefferson Graham puts Siri through a few tests to find out. Siri's closest Indian restaurant turned out to be in San Jose, California, just a 6 hour drive from Los Angeles (Photo: Robert Hanashiro) LOS ANGELES -- Hey, Siri: if you can't find me an Indian restaurant just three miles from my office, what can you get right? With the IOS 10 mobile operating system upgrade, Apple has promised us that its five-year-old personal digital assistant Siri would be better than ever, and would expand beyond the core Apple apps to also work with third-party apps like LinkedIn, Uber and Pinterest. The results of my tests is that Siri is slightly improved, but only if you take the time to enunciate correctly and slowly, and teach the voice-activated assistant what you want.

American Airlines helped 'Sully' take off, but it won't screen the film on flights
Airlines typically don't show movies and television series on flights if they include certain upsetting subjects, such as disasters and plane crashes. That is even true for "Sully," the new movie about the 2009 landing of a US Airways flight on the Hudson River, dubbed the Miracle on the Hudson. American Airlines, which merged with US Airways last year, won't show the film on its flights even though the Fort Worth-based carrier helped director Clint Eastwood film the movie at LaGuardia International Airport in New York. American Airlines confirmed that it set aside an Airbus 320 jet and a gate at LaGuardia last October for the filming of the movie. The carrier even provided uniforms and advice on the airline's rules about acceptable facial hair. "We did it without disrupting our operations," said Michelle Mohr, a spokeswoman for American who worked for US Airways during the 2009 incident.

Uncharted 4's Madagascar shows the heavy influence of The Last of Us
For his last hurrah, Nathan Drake is getting some help from an unlikely ally. The jovial treasure hunter has been the star of the Uncharted series since the first entry debuted in 2007 for PlayStation 3. Nearly 10 years and 21 million copies sold later, developer Naughty Dog is ready to say goodbye to the action-adventure franchise with Uncharted 4: A Thief's End (out May 10 exclusively for PlayStation 4). During a recent presentation for the press in Los Angeles, creative director Neil Druckmann said "compromising was never an option" for Nate's swan song, hence the numerous delays the game went through before the studio firmly settled on a date. Naughty Dog wasn't satisfied with just making a larger, prettier sequel. A lot of the innovations in Uncharted 4 actually occur in between the action-packed set pieces and impressively detailed cutscenes.
