Volkswagen SEDRIC Prototype: Riding in VW's Self-Driving Car - Motor Trend

#artificialintelligence

Motor Trend will never publish a First Drive review on the Volkswagen SEDRIC. That's because the SEDRIC, which Volkswagen Group is currently evaluating for launch sometime after 2023, is a completely autonomous vehicle. It has no steering wheel. You just call it up on your smartphone and tell it where you are and where you want to go. When it arrives, get in, sit back, relax, and enjoy the ride.

Volkswagen autonomous 'Sedric' bus is headed to production

Daily Mail - Science & tech

Volkswagen's radical, self-driving'school bus' is one step closer to hitting the streets. The German automaker announced on Tuesday that the autonomous ride-sharing pod, called Sedric, will soon enter production. Sedric, which stands for'Self Driving Car,' was unveiled by Volkswagen's parent company, Volkswagen Group, at the Geneva Motor Show in 2017. The concept car has been hailed by Volkswagen as'the future of urban mobility.' The firm envisions a not too distant future where parents can hail their own Sedric pod at the push of a button, as the car transports up to four passengers seamlessly from their doorstep to school.

Volkswagen shows off its vision for a driverless future

Back in March, the Volkswagen Group dropped rendered concept images of its futuristic Sedric, an autonomous vehicle that would take riders to their destination at the touch of a button -- no human driving required. At Auto Shanghai 2017, VW showed off a real version of its autonomous concept vehicle. As previously shown, the automater has completely removed the cockpit in favor of pure passenger space, which would which would make it capable of level 5 autonomous driving. The VW Group wants Sedric's autonomous driving to be so simple that passengers press a button to get it going. The automaker recently announced its partnership with smartwatch maker Mobvoi, which will craft the AI digital assistance interface getting plugged into Sedric, as well as VW's other self-driving cars down the line.

Volkswagen reveals its self-driving electric car Sedric

Daily Mail - Science & tech

It has been described as a cross between'an angry toaster and an old school Apple iMac on wheels'. But this bizarre-looking driverless pod concept is what Volkswagen believes will be the future of self-driving cars. Dubbed Sedric, the design was unveiled by VW ahead of the Geneva Motor Show this week. The firm said it also plans to launch more than 30 purely battery-powered vehicles by 2025. Volkswagen have built a self-driving concept car called Sedric which is a so-called Level 5 vehicle capable of fully automated operation.

This is Sedric, Volkswagen's newest concept for the future of autonomous driving. Sedric (as in self-driving car, get it?) VW claims that Sedric is the first vehicle to be designed for fully autonomous driving "from scratch." Of course, it's important to note that Sedric is just a concept, meaning it does not exist anywhere but in the imaginations of a few VW engineers and designers. Which may explain why Sedric looks so angry.

Volkswagen looks past costly emissions scandal, unveils self-driving car

#artificialintelligence

Looking well beyond its past problems, Volkswagen is projecting into the future with its self-driving concept car featuring technologies that could someday work their way into the German automaker's brands like Audi, Bentley or Porsche. After a cheeky video riffing off Star Trek, Harry Potter and other pop-culture icons, CEO Matthias Mueller presented VW's first self-driving car, known as Sedric, yesterday for a Geneva Auto Show media day. Sedric is fully electric, connected and autonomous, and picks up passengers at the touch of a button. The vehicle looks like a futuristic travel pod: No steering wheel, pedals or controls. Volkswagen has a badly dented image following the revelation that nearly 600,000 diesel vehicles deliberately circumvented U.S. emissions tests, and court cases continue against it.

VW's 'Sedric' self-driving car could chauffer you or strangers

It sounds like you won't have to. The Sedric concept is also being pitched as a private autonomous taxi that can handle everything from dropping the kids off at school to picking up pre-ordered groceries. More than just a car, VW is pitching Sedric as a sort of rolling digital assistant as well. You'll apparently be able to tell the car where to drive you, how to get there. The windshield isn't really a windshield either, it's an OLED display that feeds passengers data about their surroundings.

Volkswagen Group Debuts Its Self-Driving Car 'Sedric' At The Geneva Auto Show: A Level 5 Vehicle, It Will Be Completed Automated And Fully Electric

International Business Times

The Volkwagen Group is driving forward amid a lawsuit following the scandal involving cheated emissions tests, planning to unveil new technologically advanced vehicles at the Geneva Motor Show, including a completely self-driving car. The show begins Thursday, March 9, and will last 10 days in Geneva, Switzerland, but the Volkswagen Group unveiled their newest concept a bit early. As a step in the direction of innovation -- and a fresh image -- Volkswagen Group CEO Matthias Müller announced that the company is aiming to have more than 30 solely battery powered vehicles offered by 2025. The company also announced the work they've done on their first self-driving concept vehicle called "Sedric," a project the company plans to continue investing in. Sedric will be the model for a Level 5 automated vehicle, meaning it will be completely automated and fully electric. It has no cockpit, no pedals and no steering wheel, according to a press release.
