The first three innings saw just one run.

Philly's'transit vigilante' created a real-time bus tracker for his neighbors With a sports timer and some clever coding, Max Goldberg built a DIY display that tells South Philly commuters exactly when their next bus will arrive. Breakthroughs, discoveries, and DIY tips sent every weekday. Philadelphia's mass transit system has had a rough go of it lately. The Pennsylvania city's main public transit provider, SEPTA, has been dealing with massive service cuts, including the elimination of entire bus routes. Stadiums Are Embracing Face Recognition. Privacy Advocates Say They Should Stick to Sports
Thousands of people lined up outside Citi Field in Queens, New York on Wednesday to watch the Mets face off with the Orioles. But outside the ticketing booth, a handful of protesters handed out flyers. They were there to protest a recent Major League Baseball program, and one that's increasingly common in professional sports: using facial recognition on fans. Facial recognition companies and their customers argue that these systems save time, and therefore money, by shortening lines at stadium entrances. However, skeptics argue that the surveillance tools are never totally secure, make it easier for police to get information about fans, and fuel "mission creep" where surveillance technology becomes more common, or even required.

Well Ahead Philly: Artificial intelligence system at Main Line Health detects strokes, cutting time to treatment and saving lives
Stroke is no longer just a danger for seniors as more young adults are suffering them. Lieutenant Governor John Fetterman is 52. Now, Main Line Health has a new technology to help stop strokes faster, if they're recognized quickly. Dominique Jones from Wynnefield just didn't feel right one morning in March. "When I was taking my shower, I had a headache," she recalled.
Google chief funds new machine-learning effort at Princeton's IAS
A $2 million donation will launch new research at the Institute for Advanced Study (IAS) in Princeton to forge an understanding of how machine learning evolves. Machine learning -- sometimes called the leading edge of artificial intelligence -- is the rapidly developing computer technology behind self-driving cars, complex web searches, medical and science applications, and face and speech recognition. Machine-learning programs synthesize knowledge in a way that's analogous to how children learn. The programs take examples, generalize, and then develop rules and understanding about the world without being taught directly. With time, the programs become better at particular tasks.

Roberts says Comcast execs 'despondent' after Time Warner Cable, sees artificial intelligence as big trend
Comcast Corp. CEO Brian Roberts said Friday that he believes one of the biggest business trends will be "artificial intelligence," in which computers do tasks once done by people, leading to smart cities and smart cars. He didn't say how he thought artificial intelligence could transform Comcast, but he noted that "there's always a dark side to that kind of change." In a question-and-answer format, Roberts spoke conversationally to about 1,200 executives, lawyers, city and state officials, and others at the annual Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce breakfast . Before Roberts' remarks, Drexel University president John Fry officially took over as the chamber's board chairman, replacing Exelon Corp.'s Dennis O'Brien. Fry said he believed that Philadelphia could be one of the world's 25 top-tier cities, but that civic leaders couldn't be complacent because "as we sit down here for breakfast, [competing cities] are preparing to eat our lunch."
