The New 'Odyssey' Movie Is Sparking a Right-Wing Backlash. This Female Scholar Knows It Well
The New Movie Is Sparking a Right-Wing Backlash. Emily Wilson's 2017 translation of Homer's epic--the first by a woman--was called a woke "abomination" by online reactionaries. Christopher Nolan's film is facing similar critiques. Who'd have thought Helen of Troy would cause so much trouble? Earlier this year, certain quarters of the internet spun out at news that Kenyan-Mexican Oscar-winning actress Lupita Nyong'o was rumored to appear as the impossibly beautiful Spartan noble Helen--whose face, it was later written, launched a thousand ships--in Christopher Nolan's forthcoming Hollywood Homeric epic, The Odyssey The confirmation of her casting in May kicked off another wave of conniption fits.
A New Era of Moon Exploration Is Upon Us
On February 22nd, a robotic lander named Odysseus touched down on the sun-washed highlands near the south pole of the moon. It was the first time since the Apollo 17 mission, fifty-two years ago, that an American spacecraft had gracefully landed on the lunar surface. And yet NASA hadn't designed or built Odysseus; it was renting space onboard. Intuitive Machines, a relatively small aerospace firm based in Houston, was responsible for the lander, which launched atop a SpaceX rocket. The event was historic not just because it signalled a return to the moon but because it was the first time that a private company from any country had landed a spacecraft there.
US moon lander set to touchdown TODAY that would be the first since 1972 - but it follows a mission that failed last month
America is set to return to the moon on Thursday, marking the first time a US-made craft touched down on the lunar surface since the last Apollo mission in 1972. Odysseus, or Odie, is soaring through space, but unlike previous trips, this one is owned by Houston-based Intuitive Machines. The six-legged robot lander is scheduled to touch down at 6:24pm ET at a crater called Malapert A near the moon's south pole. The landing attempt will be livestreamed on NASA TV beginning at 5pm ET. While the mission is operated by a private company, NASA has sponsored the journey to take its scientific instruments and technology to the moon.
Titan submersible recovery efforts continue with help of remotely operated vehicle
Navy SEAL Jake Zweig responds to the intense search for the missing Titanic submarine on'Fox & Friends.' Efforts to recover the remains of the Titan submersible that suffered a catastrophic implosion near the Titanic wreckage are currently underway, and as of Sunday, had descended to the seafloor for a fourth dive. Last Thursday, the U.S. Coast Guard confirmed that a debris field located about 1,600 feet from the wreckage of the Titanic was in fact that of the missing Titan submersible. The underwater vessel was carrying five men on board when it lost contact with its surface ship about an hour and 45 minutes after descending to the Titanic. South Wellfleet, Massachusetts-based Pelagic Research Services (PRS) was contacted by OceanGate, the company behind Titan, for use of its remotely operated vehicles, or "ROVs," to assist with the search. Pelagic Research Services continues to assist the Transportation Safety Board of Canada, U.S. Coast Guard, and U.S. National Transportation Safety Board with Titan recovery efforts near the Titanic wreckage.
Indexical Cities: Articulating Personal Models of Urban Preference with Geotagged Data
Alvarez-Marin, Diana, Ochoa, Karla Saldana
How to assess the potential of liking a city or a neighborhood before ever having been there. The concept of urban quality has until now pertained to global city ranking, where cities are evaluated under a grid of given parameters, or either to empirical and sociological approaches, often constrained by the amount of available information. Using state of the art machine learning techniques and thousands of geotagged satellite and perspective images from diverse urban cultures, this research characterizes personal preference in urban spaces and predicts a spectrum of unknown likeable places for a specific observer. Unlike most urban perception studies, our intention is not by any means to provide an objective measure of urban quality, but rather to portray personal views of the city or Cities of Indexes.
AI, androids, driverless cars and genetic engineering were all predicted in ancient Greek myths
They were known for their bold architecture, fearsome warriors and revolutionary thinkers. But the Ancient Greeks were also skilled forecasters, accurately predicting the rise of artificial intelligence, killer androids and driverless cars, according to a new book. American historian Dr Adrienne Mayor claims that Greek mythology envisioned many of the technology trends we grapple with today. She suggests Silicon Valley bosses could learn a thing or two from tales written by the ancients more than 2,500 years ago. Driverless technology: Autonomous wheeled tripods in Homer's Iliad Several characters built by Hephaestus, the god of metalworking and invention, were early predictions of the rise of humanoid robots, according to Dr Mayor.
Assassin's Creed: Odyssey's Exploration Mode isn't afraid of letting players get lost
Odysseus would be heartbroken to see his home now. The once resplendent palace on the island of Ithaca is now a crumbling ruin, not much more than scattered piles of stone and a couple of faltering walls. It's also host to a company of bandits, patrolling the ancient grounds like the suitors who once tried to steal poor Penelope away. Assassin that I am, I kill first one and then the other bandit leaders. Odysseus may be 800 years dead, but I can at least pay my respects.
'Assassin's Creed Odyssey' Sounds Like 'Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag'
Okay, so at this point we only know three things about the upcoming Assassin's Creed: Odyssey. For one thing, it's called Assassin's Creed: Odyssey. For another, it's set in Ancient Greece. And finally, it will have a spiffy little keychain to go along with it. There are some other rumors floating around it, however, notably that it will feature dialogue choices for the first time in the series history, and that it will include a level of character customization that we haven't necessarily seen before. There's another rumor that interests me the most, however, and that's that this game takes some naval cues from the pirate-themed Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag.

Using the Neomycin rule base, and inputting Neomycin's own actions to the action justification generator, the average size of J(.4,) was ten and the maximum size was approximately one hundred. When an Odysseus-generated rule base for the Neomycin domain was used, these set sizes increased by a factor of four to five. After the set J(Ai) is generated, the action justification ranking subsystem of Odysseus determines the likelihood that J(Ai) contains ji, the action justification of the specialist. This involves, first, ranking ji,„ in order of likelihood of being equal to the unknown An example of ranking rule is: given two elements of a J(.4,), where,4, occurs early in the problem solving session, the
