The Morning After: Deepfakes and cheerleaders

Engadget

The world of deepfakes is both wonderful and worrying. Apps like Reface can do most of the hard work for you, swapping your face with whatever's big in pop culture and creating low-fi but functional video clips or gifs. At the other end, you have high-level deepfakes that combine an impersonator with a digital-effects artist for the best clips of Tom Cruise that aren't Tom Cruise. Or, far more seriously, people can make world leaders seem to say things that they didn't, creating fake news fallout. Somewhere in the middle, there are people already using them for nefarious means and personal gain.

Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Neymar Cannot Play On Same Team: Agent

International Business Times

The trio is considered the best players in the world right now with Messi and Neymar playing alongside each other for Barcelona from 2013 to 2017 in a spell that saw the club win two La Liga titles, three Copa del Reys, one Champions League crown and the FIFA Club World Cup. However, Neymar shockingly made the move from Barcelona to Paris Saint-Germain last summer after the oil-rich Ligue 1 side activated his €222 million ($273.7 million) release clause in what is still the world record transfer deal. It is highly believed that the Brazilian did not move for money but rather, the chance to play for a side built around him rather than Messi as with his current injury aside, he has flourished this season with 29 goals and 19 assists in 30 games in all competitions with PSG requiring just four points from their last six games to seal a fifth Ligue 1 title in six years. But, there are rumors that the 25-year-old is unhappy in Paris with speculation rising that he could return to La Liga for Barcelona or even rivals Real Madrid where he would be teammates with Ronaldo. There were also reports that Zahavi, who acted as an intermediary for Neymar's move last summer, accompanied a PSG delegation to Brazil last month to check on his injury and determine his value for another potential transfer.

Neymar: Paris St-Germain's new signing said he left Barcelona for a new challenge

BBC News

Brazil forward Neymar said he needed a new challenge, as he joined Paris St-Germain from Barcelona for a world record fee of 222m euros (£200m). The 25-year-old won seven major trophies in his four seasons at the Nou Camp, including the Champions League once and La Liga twice. He said his father, Neymar Sr, wanted him to stay at Barcelona. "I have won all that a player can win," said Neymar, who will earn 45m euros (£40.7m) a year on a five-year deal. Writing on Instagram, he added: "I have conquered everything an athlete can conquer. I have lived unforgettable moments. But a player [me] needs challenges. "And for the second time in my life, I'll contradict my father." Neymar's transfer smashes the previous record set when Paul Pogba returned to Manchester United from Juventus for £89m in August 2016. His £782,000-a-week wages mean PSG's total outlay is £400m. The French side have called a news conference for 12:30 BST on Friday, and Neymar will be introduced to fans at PSG's first game of the season against Amiens at Parc des Princes on Saturday. PSG reached the last eight of the Champions League last season - knocked out by a Neymar-inspired Barcelona - and were beaten to the French title by Monaco. Neymar said he has joined "one of the most ambitious clubs in Europe". "Paris St-Germain's ambition attracted me to the club, along with the passion and the energy this brings," he added. "I feel ready to take the challenge.
