Converging Measures and an Emergent Model: A Meta-Analysis of Human-Automation Trust Questionnaires
Razin, Yosef S., Feigh, Karen M.
A significant challenge to measuring human-automation trust is the amount of construct proliferation, models, and questionnaires with highly variable validation. However, all agree that trust is a crucial element of technological acceptance, continued usage, fluency, and teamwork. Herein, we synthesize a consensus model for trust in human-automation interaction by performing a meta-analysis of validated and reliable trust survey instruments. To accomplish this objective, this work identifies the most frequently cited and best-validated human-automation and human-robot trust questionnaires, as well as the most well-established factors, which form the dimensions and antecedents of such trust. To reduce both confusion and construct proliferation, we provide a detailed mapping of terminology between questionnaires. Furthermore, we perform a meta-analysis of the regression models that emerged from those experiments which used multi-factorial survey instruments. Based on this meta-analysis, we demonstrate a convergent experimentally validated model of human-automation trust. This convergent model establishes an integrated framework for future research. It identifies the current boundaries of trust measurement and where further investigation is necessary. We close by discussing choosing and designing an appropriate trust survey instrument. By comparing, mapping, and analyzing well-constructed trust survey instruments, a consensus structure of trust in human-automation interaction is identified. Doing so discloses a more complete basis for measuring trust emerges that is widely applicable. It integrates the academic idea of trust with the colloquial, common-sense one. Given the increasingly recognized importance of trust, especially in human-automation interaction, this work leaves us better positioned to understand and measure it.

What an AI-powered World Cup obscures
Today's Wales-USA World Cup match. Things with which this World Cup is laden so far: Geopolitical intrigue and controversy. FIFA is touting an AI-powered decision-making system that will use sensors in the actual soccer ball to help determine calls. A vast network of facial recognition-enabled cameras will track the crowd, with technology in the same family as that deployed by the controversial firm Clearview AI. AI-powered sensors in the stadiums will even help control the climate.

5 Tips for Optimizing the Customer Experience With AI
Talkdesk's Future of AI in the Contact Center report found that 84% of CX professionals expect their company's total spending on AI and automation to increase in 2025 compared to 2021, with 89% of CX professionals -- including customer service leaders, managers and operational staff -- believing in the importance of using AI in contact centers. However, only 14% of businesses consider themselves transformational with AI. Just having the technology isn't enough to produce positive results. AI users also need to follow these five best CX industry practices. To be useful in CX, it's important that AI can leverage the right data at the right time, said Karl Phenix, Avtex director of sales engineering.
Haines taps intelligence community veteran to serve as IC chief information officer
Director of National Intelligence Avril Haines has selected Adele Merritt to serve as chief information officer for the Intelligence Community. Haines announced the news in a statement Monday. Merritt has held several positions in the intelligence community during a career spanning more than two decades. She began her career at the National Security Agency, served as principal deputy CIO for cyber at the Department of Energy, and director and acting senior director for intelligence programs on the National Security Council during the Obama administration, according to ODNI. AWS Touts Partners' Conversational AI Solutions
Amazon Web Services is putting the focus on partners' conversational artificial intelligence (CAI) solutions that could spell the end of organizations' customers screaming "representative" to an interactive voice response phone system or getting stuck in a dead-end or circular digital chat loop. AWS is highlighting solutions from consulting partners including Cation Consulting, Deloitte Consulting, Quantiphi and TensorIoT and technology partners including NLX, ServisBOT and XAPP AI that allow organizations to deploy chatbots, virtual assistants and interactive voice response systems that incorporate AWS artificial intelligence and machine learning services. Their solutions employ services including Amazon Kendra, a machine learning-powered search tool that allows users to search unstructured text using natural language; Amazon Lex, a service for building conversational interfaces into applications using voice and text; and Amazon Polly, a text-to-speech service that converts text into lifelike speech. The new partner initiative comes as the demand for CAI interfaces continues to grow, according to Arte Merritt, who leads AWS partnerships for contact center intelligence and conversational AI. End-customers increasingly prefer to interact with businesses on digital channels, and businesses want to increase user satisfaction, reduce operational costs and streamline business processes, Merritt said in a blog post.

A legendary, yet mostly forgotten theme park ride rises from the grave at Knott's Berry Farm
Robotics, digital trickery, trackless rides -- modern theme parks are full of technological innovations. Rolly Crump, the 91-year-old designer who helped shape It's a Small World, the Enchanted Tiki Room and the Haunted Mansion at Disneyland, has his share of myth-making tales as well. He's one of the few surviving ex-Disney staffers who not only knew Walt Disney but also enjoyed a somewhat close relationship with him. When it comes to the creative process, he can be blunt -- myth-shattering, if you will. Consider this Crump insight: Sometimes the best theme park rides are built on lots of beer, probably even more marijuana and large purchases of pantyhose. Now, Crump's influence can be seen in a new ride at Knott's Berry Farm that's based on an old ride at Knott's Berry Farm. Knott's Bear-y Tales: Return to the Fair is an adorable, video-game like animated romp with cartoon critters and lots of pies -- a respectful and nostalgic 2021 endeavor that livens up the park by celebrating its history.

MassMutual, a $30 billion per year life insurance company, had a problem. It was 2013 and, along with the rest of the insurance industry, it was bedeviled by fraud. According to FBI estimates, fraud sets the U.S. insurance industry (and policyholders) back by $40 billion a year. "We had to get much better at detecting fraud in real time," says Sears Merritt, MassMutual's chief of technology strategy and data science. So MassMutual launched an innovative collaboration between the company's data scientists and its line managers.
