Unsupervised Machine Learning for the Classification of Astrophysical X-ray Sources
Pérez-Díaz, Víctor Samuel, Martínez-Galarza, Juan Rafael, Caicedo, Alexander, D'Abrusco, Raffaele
The automatic classification of X-ray detections is a necessary step in extracting astrophysical information from compiled catalogs of astrophysical sources. Classification is useful for the study of individual objects, statistics for population studies, as well as for anomaly detection, i.e., the identification of new unexplored phenomena, including transients and spectrally extreme sources. Despite the importance of this task, classification remains challenging in X-ray astronomy due to the lack of optical counterparts and representative training sets. We develop an alternative methodology that employs an unsupervised machine learning approach to provide probabilistic classes to Chandra Source Catalog sources with a limited number of labeled sources, and without ancillary information from optical and infrared catalogs. We provide a catalog of probabilistic classes for 8,756 sources, comprising a total of 14,507 detections, and demonstrate the success of the method at identifying emission from young stellar objects, as well as distinguishing between small-scale and large-scale compact accretors with a significant level of confidence. We investigate the consistency between the distribution of features among classified objects and well-established astrophysical hypotheses such as the unified AGN model. This provides interpretability to the probabilistic classifier. Code and tables are available publicly through GitHub. We provide a web playground for readers to explore our final classification at https://umlcaxs-playground.streamlit.app.

Attention-Based Recurrent Neural Network For Automatic Behavior Laying Hen Recognition
Laleye, Fréjus A. A., Mousse, Mikaël A.
Animal vocalisations are associated with different animal responses and can be used as useful indicators of the state of animal welfare. They are information about animal behavior allowing to determine the needs of the animals, providing personalized and optimal attention for the benefit of the production (Banhazi and Black, 2009; Bardeli et al, 2010). There are two types of poultry farming which coexist: traditional poultry farming and modern poultry farming which is recent and is gaining more and more importance. Unlike traditional poultry farming, which is less demanding, the establishment of modern poultry farming is subject to investment no less negligible and, requires rigorous conduct. Well conducted, modern poultry farming constitutes a source of unquestionable fortune for Poultry Farmers. Indeed, with the increase in demand for poultry products in the market and the presence of other factors such as consumers demanding more transparency in reporting on the welfare, environmental impact and safety of poultry products, it is essential to think on a rationalization in the treatment of animals.

Siri in healthcare: a "Master Class" in artificial intelligence and the future of Apple computing – Gregory Bufithis
My regular readers will recognize Zaid's name. In 2012, at LegalTech New York, I used his very cool "The Mashup App" which was a vision for the future of the web: a web where we control our personal information and curate our digital data -- from memories to knowledge -- from all from our personal devices. The app is a personal database in which you save your digital data. You can save all types of data including web, PDF, images, video, audio, location, and time data. Since your personal database is on your device, you can save everything that is important to you – in this case, a log of every place I visited during my 3 days at LegalTech that year, plus the 3 days after in NYC at client meetings. From this I could generate a "diary" of my day, or my week and I could also associate any document (such as a PDF or a restaurant receipt or dry cleaning bill) I had to that "pin" location and/or day.

Master Class: The 5 Stages of Digital Transformation
After decades of coaching senior execs on increasingly-digitally-driven transformations, I discovered a pattern -- the Five Universal Stages of Digital Transformation. Nearly 30 years ago, a client gave me the button below -- (with all words clearly visible) -- and explained its power: "Never underestimate the authority of numbers and spreadsheets." Forty years ago, during the spring of 1978, we have Harvard MBA student Dan Bricklin to thank for the dawn of the Data Fondling Era. When their program took off, so did data fondling. Because a spreadsheet looks so authoritative, hypothetical models of success got accepted as guaranteed.

Saturday's TV highlights and weekend talk shows: Gladys Knight in 'Oprah's Master Class'
Halt and Catch Fire Donna (Kerry Bishe) makes a play to land a heavy hitter, while her ex (Scoot McNairy), has a talk with one of their daughters about a troubling issue at school. Oprah's Master Class In the first of two new episodes, Usher describes how he dealt with fame at a young age and the role that family has played in shaping his career and life. Then soul singer Gladys Knight reflects on her coming of age in the music business, and the reality of touring in the segregated South of the 1950s. By a coincidence in programming all five movies in the action franchise are airing on three channels, but not in order. Up first is the fourth film, "The Bourne Legacy" (2012), starring Jeremy Renner and Rachel Weisz. 3 p.m. FX.

This Email From Elon Musk to Tesla Employees Is a Master Class in Emotional Intelligence
Tesla, the electric-automobile manufacturer led by famed CEO Elon Musk, has struggled mightily with safety over the past few years. California nonprofit Worksafe, a worker safety advocacy group, recently made headlines when it reported that the injury rate at Tesla's Fremont, California, plant was more than 30 percent higher than the industry average in 2014 and 2015. Musk insists, however, that safety is the number one priority at Tesla. He claims that recent actions, like the company's hiring thousands of employees to create a third shift and reduce excess overtime, have made a major impact in lowering the injury rate. A recent email Musk sent to employees indicates just how seriously he's taking the issue.
