Building AI systems that work is still hard

#artificialintelligence

Martin Welker is the chief executive of Axonic. Even with the support of AI frameworks like TensorFlow or OpenAI, artificial intelligence still requires deep knowledge and understanding compared to a mainstream web developer. If you have built a working prototype, you are probably the smartest guy in the room. Congratulations, you are a member of a very exclusive club. With Kaggle, you can even earn decent money by solving real-world projects.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) has gained worldwide exposure over the years through Hollywood, including the recent blockbuster movies such as Alien: Covenant and Blade Runner 2049. While androids like those depicted in the movies are nothing but science fiction at this point in time, we are seeing the increasingly advanced application of AI incorporate mainstream computing. In this post, we examine how website development is benefiting from artificial intelligence (AI), as well as some unique integration challenges. Modern mainstream website development has focused on the building of a customer-facing front-end presence on the Internet and the integration of the front-end with enterprise back-office operations. Drupal is an industry-leading open-sourced platform for building such enterprise websites.

Understanding the Artificial Intelligence Hype Cycle, in 5 Stats

We're witnessing an arms race that involves just about every major technology company, from martech giant Salesforce to the'Chinese Google' Baidu to old dogs like Microsoft. In Gartner's hype cycle, which ranks technologies based on how the market perceives them and how far away they are from mainstream adoption, machine learning is right at the tippy top. The research firm expects companies driven by insights (i.e., from data and AI) to significantly outperform those that don't or can't. Yet marketers should be happy that every martech giant is investing heavily in machine learning.

O'Reilly says artificial intelligence is 'going mainstream'

#artificialintelligence

Artificial intelligence has come out of the dark corners of science fiction and is ready to become ubiquitous in the real world, according to one of the most influential tech gurus of the internet era. Writing on the company's website, Tim O'Reilly, founder and CEO of O'Reilly Media, say humanity is "at the beginning of an explosion of intelligent software" which could change everything. O'Reilly says: "It's easy to get excited about recent progress but much more difficult to understand what lies ahead. Researchers have built some excellent, but very specialized, systems. Still, we're far from anything that looks like a general intelligence system. "We have programs that can play Go, drive a car, chat, manage investments, and identify pictures; we don't have programs that can do all of the thousands of things that humans do every day.

Is Viv the Future of Personal Virtual Assistants?

#artificialintelligence

As video content matures and proliferates and VR content creates new interactive environments and as the way we access software and apps changes and evolves, PVAs or personal virtual assistants will radically influence the interface with the internet and these new layers of content and virtual experience. Viv is just four years old, but by the time IoT and VR matures, she will be ready to make the smart home, smart city and billions of connected devices truly come to life. While we assume it will be one of the tech giants: Google, Facebook, Amazon, Apple or Microsoft; disruption doesn't usually come from an established player whose interests and investments are scattered. Just as VR represents a new platform of information, content, advertisement, marketing and social media, and digital experiences, VPAs like Viv could represent another springboard to the future.
