Hey Logitech, every mouse should be a forever mouse

PCWorld

It's predatory, and a practice that's not only bad for consumers but doesn't even make sense as an actual product. Recently, Logitech's new chief executive Hanneke Faber spoke to The Verge's Decoder podcast, where Faber mentioned that she'd recently been shown an example of a "forever mouse." The idea, she said, was that you'd buy a well-made mouse, with great software and services that you'd constantly update, and never throw away. But then the other shoe dropped: "The business model obviously is the challenge there," she said. "So then software is even more important when you think about it. Can you come up with a service model?"

This stupid mistake in Logitech's AI-powered mouse is driving me mad

I'm trying to love Logitech's Signature AI Edition M750 Wireless Mouse. But I'm continually tripping over this small detail, and it literally is making me more frustrated than I should be. It's an intriguing, polarizing concept: By placing an "AI" button on the top of the mouse, Logitech gives users one-click access to ChatGPT to do one thing: simplify the writing and rewriting of text via an AI app called Logi Prompt Builder. It's a novel idea, and one you might expect Microsoft to develop, given the Copilot key that's already appearing on laptop keyboards. Instead, Logitech is leading the way.

AI buttons are being forced into your tech, whether you want it or not

Fortunes are being made on that interest, in a way hauntingly reminiscent of the crypto boom and subsequent bust. And absolutely everyone wants to get in on the former and avoid the latter. "Everyone" in this case includes pretty much every possible technology company. While OpenAI is at the center of this particular gold rush, and Nvidia is selling the shovels to digital forty-niners, more conventional players aren't resting on their haunches. As happens with buzzwords, it's quickly becoming diluted -- every new PC is an "AI PC," which means very little for actual users.

Logitech adds programmable ChatGPT shortcuts to its mice and keyboards

Engadget

Logitech has rolled out a new software tool called Logi AI Prompt Builder, which gives you quick access to ChatGPT's features. You first have to link a specific key on your keyboard or a button on your mouse with the tool from within the Logi Options software. After that, you can use that key or button as a shortcut to summon the prompt builder when you need it. The tool window pops up when you call it, populated with the text you've highlighted. It already has functions or "recipes" you can use, such as Rephrase, Summarize and Create Email, that will base their results on the text you've selected. However, you can create your own recipes, as well, including one that can generate images.

Logitech's new mouse summons AI with a button push

On the heels of keyboards with a Cortana key…comes a mouse with a ChatGPT key? Logitech plans to launch the Signature AI Edition Mouse in April in the United States and the United Kingdom for 49.99. Though it has a dedicated AI key -- you do need a dedicated AI key on your mouse, right? That app is part of Logi Options, the connective software that ties many of Logitech's MX, or "Master," series peripherals (plus its Studio Series, Ergo, and others) such as keyboards and mice. When a user presses the AI prompt button on the top of the AI Edition Mouse, they're actually launching the Prompt Builder within the Options app. Existing Logitech peripherals that lack a dedicated ChatGPT key can remap another key to trigger the same function.

The Morning After: NVIDIA says its Blackwell GPUs are the world's most powerful chips

Engadget

NVIDIA's H100 chips are used by nearly every AI company in the world to train large language models hooked into services like ChatGPT. It's been great for business. Now, the company is ready to make those chips look terrible, announcing a next-generation platform called Blackwell. Named for David Harold Blackwell, a mathematician who specialized in game theory and statistics, NVIDIA claims Blackwell is the world's most powerful chip, reaching speeds of 20 petaflops compared to just 4 petaflops the H100 provided. Yeah, throw it in the trash.
