As much as we all hope the data, we use is immaculate the reality of it is that many times it is not! Learn standard tools like Pandas and NumPy as they have become tools for me as well as many others on our paths to creating better algorithms. Learning how to deal with "Not a Number" (Nan) is something every person working with data has encountered before. So understanding the effects of different techniques on models whether it be setting the Nan values to extreme values vs just dropping Nan values entirely can drastically change the outcome. At this point, we have all seen the amazing technologies that machine learning and artificial intelligence have brought forward to society, but before jumping into the deep end take the time to understand the fundamentals such as linear regression, K-means clustering, and Naive Bayes.

We need to see apps for what they are. A clumsy way to organize our data and a contained user experience. We are being forced into silos; accessing a very narrow top surface and having to drill down through functionality to access the specific service we are looking for. There are these barriers which is baked into the nature of the user ecosystem where we need to unlock, open, navigate, access and action. We are forced into these synchronous, single thread, narrow domains of rectangles and user experiences and pulled out of our multi-threaded asynchronous digital existence.

It's not long before you want to know more about this creative, inspiring person, so you start doing some research. It's strange, but there doesn't seem to be any information about the artist's past online; you can't find out where she went to school or who her mentors were. After some more digging, you find out something totally unexpected: your beloved artist is actually not a person at all--she's an AI.

The self-driving freight truck startup TuSimple has been carrying mail across the state of Arizona for several weeks. UPS announced on Thursday that its venture capital arm has made a minority investment in TuSimple. The announcement also revealed that since May TuSimple autonomous trucks have been hauling UPS loads on a 115-mile route between Phoenix and Tucson. UPS confirmed to Gizmodo this is the first time UPS has announced it has been using TuSimple autonomous trucks to deliver packages in the state. Around the same time as the UPS and TuSimple program began, the United States Postal Service and TuSimple publicized a two-week pilot program to deliver mail between Phoenix and Dallas, a 1,000 mile trip.

Are we rapidly approaching Skynet? That technology from the movie Terminator, which ultimately becomes self-aware and begins to eradicate the human race? Maybe not today, but the field of artificial intelligence is rapidly expanding. Those in the know are beginning to wonder when we need to consider the possibility. From our smartphones to our toasters, to self-driving cars, to smart homes that control the temperature and the lights in our house, we are beginning to gradually turn more decisions over to computers.

What could your computer, phone, or other gadget do differently if it knew how you were feeling? Rana el Kaliouby, founder and CEO of Affectiva, is considering the possibilities of such a world. Speaking at the Computer History Museum last week, el Kaliouby said that she has been working to teach computers to read human faces since 2000 as a PhD student at Cambridge University. "I remember being stressed," she says. "I had a paper deadline, and "Clippy" [that's Microsoft's ill-fated computer assistant] would pop up and do a little twirl and say'It looks like you are writing a letter.' I would think, 'No I'm not!'"
