Race to Target to drive these 'Mario Kart' shopping carts
Target shopping carts decorated to look like vehicles from the video game Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. Shopping at Target this week might get a little more competitive. On Friday, Nintendo is launching Mario Kart 8 Deluxe for the Nintendo Switch. I've played it, and it's amazing. This is likely why the retailing giant is going big to promote the arrival of a new Mario Kart.
The charity that wants video game karts in every hospital
In many ways, Jonathan Watson is like other 11-year-olds. He does his homework, dreams of becoming a doctor and plays video games when he can. Depending on the day, his favorite is either Minecraft or The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. Unlike most kids his age, though, Jonathan is at the hospital every three weeks for blood transfusions -- a procedure that can take up to six hours at a time. When I visited him at Mott Children's Hospital in Ann Arbor, Michigan, he wasn't slaying dragons or building a pixelated fortress; he was replaying the opening levels of Rayman Legends on a kart that had just been wheeled in.
Announcing the world's first autonomous track day
Taking a vehicle to the race track to improve it has been a thing for almost as long as we've had cars. Henry Ford built his brand's name on his early racing exploits, and so have countless others. So it's natural that some of the people interested in self-driving cars have been thinking about how the track can benefit this new technology. Joshua Schachter is one such person, and he's organizing the first autonomous track day, to be held on May 28th-29th at Thunderhill Raceway in Willow, California. Self-driving cars and racing are two of my favorite things, so I spoke to Schachter to find out more.
