Indigenous calendars could make solar power more efficient
Breakthroughs, discoveries, and DIY tips sent every weekday. A truly sustainable future requires solar power, but trying to consistently maximize the energy harvested by panel arrays remains one of the industry's biggest challenges. Unlike fossil fuels, solar power yields are dictated by the complex interplay of weather and atmospheric variables, as well as the sun's own activity. This means it's basically impossible to craft a universal prediction model, so localized solar forecast systems are a necessity. While machine learning technology has significantly improved today's forecast models, there is still a lot of room for improvement.
Xfinity 500 driver pulls inspiration from NASCAR 2005 video game to secure spot in the championship
A race car driver in peril of being eliminated from Sunday's Xfinity 500 race attempted a bizarre maneuver he learned in a racing videogame that blasted him from 10th up to 5th place, and earning a spot in the championship race this weekend. Ross Chastain, 29, pulled a Hail Mary pass when he recalled the'wall ride' move he from NASCAR 2005 on Nintendo GameCube. The Chevrolet driver grabbed fifth gear and blasted off at 130 miles per hour, riding along the outer wall and passing the five cars ahead of him, specifically driver Denny Hamlin who was holding on to fifth place. Chastain told reporters in a post-race interview that he was not sure the move would work, but his brother had used the sneak attack to beat him when they played the game together as children and he took a chance that paid off. The Xfinity 500 race kicked off at Martinsville Speedway in Ridgeway, Virginia - a half-mile track built in 1947. Sunday's race marked the 75th anniversary of the season, which drew in a massive crowd to the stands.

Hamlin failed to make the championship round and instead, Chastain will join race winner Christopher Bell, Joey Logano and Chase Elliott for the final event in Phoenix next week.
Career roadmap: Machine learning engineer
It stands to reason, then, that machine learning engineers are in good place as far as career outlook. These professionals are sophisticated programmers who develop machines and systems that can learn and apply knowledge without specific direction, according to Study.com, an online education platform. The focus of machine learning engineers goes beyond specifically programming machines to perform specific tasks, Study.com They create programs that allow machines to take actions without being specifically directed to perform the tasks. Such an engineer might work on the development of a self-driving vehicle, for example, or program services in such a way that they can attempt to identify a specific individual's interests.

NASCAR playoffs: Hamlin holds off Larson's wall-banging 'video game' move to win Southern 500
More than 195 drivers have won a Cup Series race since NASCAR started in 1948, but who has won the most? Kyle Larson put it all on the line … and the wall. (AP Photo/John Amis) (AP) The Hendrick Motorsports driver made a last-ditch effort to pass Denny Hamlin in the final turns of the Southern 500 that looked like something out of a video game race. Larson led the most laps during the race, but was behind Hamlin near the end and unable to get by, so he went full throttle and ran his car against the wall in turns three and four as they approached the checkered flag attempting to pass him on the outside with smoke coming off the car. "I gave it everything I had, I didn't want to wreck him, I just wanted to, you know, get to his outside there," Larson said.
