Greenlight Family Hub (2026): Finally, a Digital Wall Calendar With a Voice Assistant
After testing multiple models, I'm convinced voice control belongs on the family calendar. Greenlight's Family Hub shows why. I set up a digital wall calendar at a friend's house a couple of months ago. Her first question was one I've constantly asked myself as I test these devices in my own home: "Does it have a voice assistant?" It feels like the one thing missing from these devices.
Find out how AI will reduce risk in the movie business and help to secure a healthier and more diverse industry in the future.
The technology of artificial intelligence promises to revolutionize all aspects of our lives. Though this technology is still in its infancy, major global industries are rushing to invest in AI solutions. The movie business is no exception. But can AI really reduce risk in the movie production process or is this pure fantasy? Given that the industry will stand to save hundreds of millions of dollars per year if it can, let's examine how AI risk management could save the global movie industry from such future losses.
Cab-less autonomous truck gets greenlight to cruise on US public roadsr
What began as a radical concept design for a driverless truck, is now the first fully autonomous rig to receive permission from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to cruise on US public roads. Freight technology company Einride's Pod keeps the massive shipping container, but is without the front cab – leaving no room for a human operator. Instead, a so-called Remote Pod Operator, described as'a first of its kind role,' monitors the robotic truck from a different location. The Swedish company says its Pod runs entirely on electric power with a range of 124 miles on a single charge. The Remote Pod Operators will observe and support an Einride Pod that is operating in automated drive mode to ensure they run optimally and safely as they ship goods on behalf of Einride's customers,' the company says.
Germany gives greenlight to driverless vehicles on public roads – TechCrunch
Germany has adopted legislation that will allow driverless vehicles on public roads by 2022, laying out a path for companies to deploy robotaxis and delivery services in the country at scale. While autonomous testing is currently permitted in Germany, this would allow operations of driverless vehicles without a human safety operator behind the wheel. The bill, which last week passed the Bundestag, Germany's lower house of parliament, specifically looks at vehicles with Level 4 autonomy. Level 4 autonomy is a designation by the Society of Automobile Engineers (SAE) which means the computer handles all the driving in certain conditions or environments. In Germany, these vehicles will be limited to geographic areas.
'Aztez': The bloody indie brawler that should've been big
Imagine: It's 2012 and Matthew Wegner is sitting at his desk in the back of a one-bedroom apartment in Tempe, Arizona, pounding away at a keyboard. It's night but thick black drapes are pulled over the window; the room is suffused with dim yellow light, casting sickly shadows over the papers tacked to the walls. Most of them are emblazoned with the name Aztez, depicting bloody battles among ancient Aztec warriors. Wegner's fingers fall still as he closes a line of code and reviews his work. A ball of blinding white light suddenly explodes in the middle of the room, shooting sparks to the ceiling and singeing the carpet -- Wegner jumps up and stares, wide-eyed, at the intrusion.
How Salesforce Snagged 'Einstein' for Its Foray Into Artificial Intelligence
The tech giant's AI software is named after Albert Einstein. Last week, Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff touted a vision of the future in which everything and everyone will be connected and driven by machine learning and data. Benioff was launching his company's foray into artificial intelligence last week in front of 170,000 people at its annual Dreamforce conference in San Francisco. While the future-looking technology has been in the works for years and was built by hundreds of data scientists, Salesforce's AI tool actually takes a branding lesson from the past--specifically, from Albert Einstein. Salesforce unveiled Einstein in September and at Dreamforce explained how it works.
Steam is turning into the App Store and that's OK
Steam changed the video-game industry in the same way Netflix changed television. Digital distribution was a natural evolution for gaming in the early 2010s, allowing PC players to skip the midnight-release lines at Gamestop and purchase new titles with the click of a button. While Steam wasn't the first hub to offer digitally distributed games -- Valve debuted it in 2004 -- it quickly gained a massive following and by 2011 was undoubtedly the largest platform for finding, buying and playing games on PC, Mac and Linux. Steam is Netflix on pixelated, interactive steroids. Even consoles eventually followed Steam's lead, becoming more connected and relying less on physical discs with each new generation.
Alphabet Inc. gets greenlight to test delivery drones at a US site
The race between Alphabet Inc. and Amazon to unleash the first fleet of delivery drones is now neck and neck. The White House has given Alphabet Inc.'s delivery drone service the greenlight to start testing its unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) at a US site. This initiative is part of The White House's project to understand this technology and what safety measures need to be implemented before unleashing flocks into the open skies.
