Artificial Intelligence and Its Partners

#artificialintelligence

The creation of the Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence (GPAI) reflects the growing interest of states in AI technologies. The initiative, which brings together 14 countries and the European Union, will help participants establish practical cooperation and formulate common approaches to the development and implementation of AI. At the same time, it is a symptom of the growing technological rivalry in the world, primarily between the United States and China. Russia's ability to interact with the GPAI may be limited for political reasons, but, from a practical point of view, cooperation would help the country implement its national AI strategy. The Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence (GPAI) was officially launched on June 15, 2020, at the initiative of the G7 countries alongside Australia, India, Mexico, New Zealand, South Korea, Singapore, Slovenia and the European Union. According to the Joint Statement from the Founding Members, the GPAI is an "international and multistakeholder initiative to guide the responsible development and use of AI, grounded in human rights, inclusion, diversity, innovation, and economic growth."

India has now joined the league of leading economies including USA, UK, EU, Italy, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Japan, Mexico, New Zealand, South Korea, & Singapore to launch the Global Partnership on AI. Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence (GPAI) is the first of its kind initiative, aimed to guide responsible development and use of AI, grounded in human rights, inclusion, diversity, innovation, and economic growth. This is also the first initiative of its type for evolving a better understanding of the challenges and opportunities around Artificial Intelligence using the experience and diversity of participating countries. To embark on this goal, GPAI will look to close the gap between theory and practice on Artificial Intelligence by leveraging cutting-edge research and applied action on Artificial Intelligence-related objectives. "We, Australia, France, Canada, Italy, Germany, Mexico, India, Japan, the Republic of Korea, New Zealand, Slovenia, Singapore, the United States of America, the United Kingdom, and the European Union, have come together to build the Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence."

G7 AI partnership seeks standards to support shared values, counter China's influence

In terms of AI productivity, 2019 would be hard to beat. Twenty-nine new and updated political schemes were announced for domesticating artificial intelligence, according to the United Nations. But one announcement this year -- the formation of the Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence -- obviates or overshadows most of the AI development plans published since 2016, when China pushed the world's first statement out. The global partnership, or GPAI, solidified last month. And it only happened after Western democracies (notably the United States) realized that all the go-it-alone development and control approaches in the world will not stop China from dominating the technology all by itself.

How COVID Pandemic Highlighted The Limitations Of AI

#artificialintelligence

As we are evolving towards this unprecedented time of COVID-19, artificial intelligence proved to be one technology that has encompassed almost all aspects of human lives, whether it be healthcare, banking, shopping as well as running businesses amid this crisis. The impact of this pandemic has showcased the significance of this technology, and therefore companies and government entities are catching up their pace with AI-powered solutions. In fact, according to a PwC's report, it has been noted how this technology can be a game-changer for this era and could contribute up to $15.7 trillion to the global economy by 2030. A lot of this could be attributed to the popular belief that artificial intelligence has the potential to solve some of the complex real-world business problems. However, despite these incredible outcomes that artificial intelligence harnessed over businesses, the pandemic has highlighted some existing problems related to this technology, including explainability, accuracy, and privacy-related risks.
