A Gang of Adversarial Bandits
We consider running multiple instances of multi-armed bandit (MAB) problems in parallel. A main motivation for this study are online recommendation systems, in which each of $N$ users is associated with a MAB problem and the goal is to exploit users' similarity in order to learn users' preferences to $K$ items more efficiently. We consider the adversarial MAB setting, whereby an adversary is free to choose which user and which loss to present to the learner during the learning process. Users are in a social network and the learner is aided by a-priori knowledge of the strengths of the social links between all pairs of users. It is assumed that if the social link between two users is strong then they tend to share the same action. The regret is measured relative to an arbitrary function which maps users to actions. The smoothness of the function is captured by a resistance-based dispersion measure $\Psi$. We present two learning algorithms, GABA-I and GABA-II, which exploit the network structure to bias towards functions of low $\Psi$ values.
Police accused of 'homophobic assumptions' over victims of blackmail on Grindr
Police accused of'homophobic assumptions' over victims of blackmail on Grindr Police failed to properly investigate allegations that a gang was blackmailing men on the gay dating app Grindr, the BBC can reveal. Our investigation has learned of five cases of suspected blackmail involving victims targeted on Grindr in one area, with at least four of them connected to the same gang, which remains at large. In one instance, a suspected victim killed himself 24 hours after a group of men turned up at his home demanding he hand over his new Range Rover. The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) watchdog has told Hertfordshire Police - the investigating force - to examine whether homophobic assumptions could have contributed to failures in the investigation. Hertfordshire Police said it was unable to discuss specific points about the case, which has now been reopened, but said it is committed to building and maintaining good working relationships with the LGBTQ+ communities.

MP wants Elon Musk's chatbot shut down over claim he enabled grooming gangs
MP wants Elon Musk's chatbot shut down over claim he enabled grooming gangs An MP has called for Elon Musk's artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot to be shut down after it called him a rape enabler. The Grok chatbot made the post on X about SNP MP Pete Wishart, after a user asked it to comment on the member's opinion on whether there should be an inquiry into grooming gangs in Scotland. Mr Wishart said he was seeking legal advice over the deeply distressing accusation and called for Musk to recalibrate the bot to shut it down. The BBC has approached XAI, the parent company of X, for comment. I was genuinely shocked to be described in such an appalling and defamatory way, Mr Wishart said in a statement.

BBC at scene of 'brazen' Louvre jewel theft
BBC at scene of'brazen' Louvre jewel theft A manhunt is under way for a gang of thieves who carried out a broad daylight raid on Paris's Louvre Museum, and stole jewels described as priceless. The gang appear to have used a mechanical ladder to reach a first-floor window, before breaking into display cases and escaping on motorbikes. The BBC's Hugh Schofield is outside the museum where the extraordinary, daring and brazen robbery took place. Drone footage shows blaze destroying the historic Bernaga Monastery in Italy. Could a Corrie cameo be on the cards for Daniel O'Donnell?

Organized Looting Throws Gaza Deeper Into Chaos
At times, Israeli tanks have deployed along main roads where aid trucks travel. And Israeli ministers have said they debated authorizing private security contractors to protect international aid convoys inside Gaza. Until recently, Israeli forces largely did not target the looters unless they were affiliated with Hamas or other militant groups, according to U.N. officials. But that appears to have changed in recent weeks. In Israeli military drone footage viewed by The Times, looters can be seen confiscating white sacks of aid from cars in southern Gaza in November.

A SWAT team stormed my house
February 16th started like any typical Friday night. My husband and I decided to stay home, grill chicken and make a salad for dinner. At about 6:45 p.m., we heard some loud rumbling overhead. We walked onto the back patio, and two police helicopters were overhead -- shining lights all over our property, and a recording echoed, "Police. As I looked across the fence, a swarm of armed members of the Phoenix SWAT Team with a few dogs were circling our property. One of the guys said, "Yeah, there's a jammer right here." I leaned over the patio and asked, "What's going on?" A SWAT member said, "Ma'am, A South American gang is targeting homes to steal from.

The weirdest news of 2022 - Cloud7 News
In 2022, we saw many new technologies and methods in the tech industry and in the never-ending battle between hackers and cybersecurity experts. Sometimes, these new technologies can result in unexpected outcomes, or discovering mind-blowing methods seems like a scene from science fiction movies. Our lists include a music video becoming a vulnerability with a CVE, very unusual services being hacked by hackers, an AI bot turning into a hacker's assistant, and many more. Each year, ransomware groups are attacks thousands of organizations to extort money. But this time, the perpetrator became the victim.
