Chrysler's CES 2023 Concept Is an Artificial Intelligence-Powered Dashboard
Chrysler has announced the debut of its futuristic Synthesis interior concept demonstrator at CES 2023. Those attending this year's Computer Electronics Show in Las Vegas will be able to get a preview of Chrysler's self-envisioned future starting on January 5th. The Synthesis two-seater might lack doors, a windshield and a roof, but its design is immediately evocative of a fictional starship. The demonstrator is intended to be a representation of the design language and advanced technologies that could feature in Chrysler production cars in the near-future. At the heart of the Synthesis is a trio of AI-powered Stellantis technological platforms collectively referred to as Advanced Technology for Real Life.

Chrysler unveils two-seater cockpit concept with an 'infotainment system' and AI
It may look a little like the inside of the Back to the Future DeLorean or KITT from Knight Rider, but this is actually a real concept by car brand Chrysler. The firm Stellantis unveiled the two-seater cockpit design at the Consumer Electronics Show 2023 in Las Vegas. It features a 37-inch glass'infotainment system', an AI assistant that can plan routes based on your calendar and'wellness experiences' that include meditation, karaoke and a DJ game. The AI assistant, known as MyDay, would provide a'welcome' to the driver based on biometric recognition, while also updating them on the vehicle's charge status and the weather forecast. There is still no sign of what Chrysler's first electric vehicle will look like on the outside, but this concept offers of glimpse of how their cars of the future may appear on the inside.

Chrysler's future car cabins will be built around partial self driving
Chrysler has yet to deliver an electric car or otherwise leap into the future, but it's at least willing to hint at what that future will look like. The Stellantis brand is debuting a Synthesis cockpit concept at CES that previews what you can expect in next-generation electric vehicles. Most notably, the two-seat demonstrator is built around Level 3 self-driving technology -- that is, it assumes you'll have your hands off the steering wheel in limited conditions. The 37.2 inches of infotainment display area provides the usual media and navigation controls, but is also designed to be useful when autonomous driving is active. You can participate in video calls, play games, sing karaoke or even create your own music.

Auto shows return as industry tries to reposition for the future despite delta
As automotive chieftains gather in Munich this week for Europe's first major car show in two years, they'll do more than just lift the veil on shiny sheet metal. These are occasions where big deals tend to get done. Consider one of the last times the auto world descended on a European city for such a forum, in March 2019. Just before the action got underway in Geneva, the CEOs of Peugeot maker PSA and Fiat Chrysler met to sow the seeds of what blossomed into a megamerger, vaulting Stellantis NV into the same league as Toyota Motor Corp. and Volkswagen AG (VW). Toyota, Stellantis and Nissan Motor Co. aren't even attending, and carmakers that will are sending smaller contingents due to the surging delta variant.

Xconomy: NuTonomy Switches to Chrysler For More Elbow Room in Self-Driving Cars
There's a time in a self-driving car company's life where a minivan is just more sensible than a sleek, European city car. NuTonomy, the autonomous vehicle startup spun out of MIT that's putting its systems through their paces on the streets of South Boston, says it has "decommissioned" its fleet of five-door, "supermini" electric cars manufactured by French automaker Renault under the brand name Zoe, according to a quarterly update the startup filed with the city of Boston. NuTonomy has been testing the vehicles on the city streets since January 2017. "The Zoe vehicle platform, with significant customizations, has performed all of our autonomous testing in Boston to date," the company writes. "However, as our engineering and design teams evaluated the technology requirements and customer needs in a fully autonomous vehicle, it became clear that the Zoe could not meet all of the criteria."

Here's how hackers are making your Tesla, GM and Chrysler less vulnerable to attack
Tin foil is one way to keep modern car key fobs safe from creative thieves. Kim Komando explains the technology -- and how to keep them safe. In March, a Tesla Model 3 was hacked. The duo responsible for uncovering the vulnerability accessed the car's web browser, executed code on its firmware and displayed a message on the infotainment system before making off with the Model 3 and $375,000. The hackers didn't remotely take total control of the car or wreak havoc on its door locks or brakes while an innocent driver sat inside.

Why your next Jeep could be electric: What Fiat Chrysler-Renault merger means for you
A link has been posted to your Facebook feed. A budding deal to combine Jeep maker Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and French automaker Renault could make that possibility a reality in the coming years. After years of searching for a partner, Fiat Chrysler may have finally found the one. Less than a year after the death of consolidation promoter and Fiat Chrysler savior Sergio Marchionne, a merger of Fiat Chrysler and Renault is on the verge of happening. Fiat Chrysler on Monday unveiled its proposal to combine the two companies in a 50-50 deal that would carry seismic consequences for the global automotive business. Here's how it could affect American car shoppers: Fiat Chrysler is badly lacking electric vehicles in America.

Waymo wants to bring self-driving taxis to Europe
Waymo hasn't quite launched its self-driving taxi service in Phoenix and San Francisco yet, but it's already settings its sights on another continent. The Alphabet-owned company's CEO, John Krafcik, has revealed that Waymo aims to make its way to Europe after launching in the US later this year. He made the announcement at the Automotive News Europe Congress in Turin, Italy, where he also said that if the company does enter the European market, it will likely be with the help of a partner. "There is an opportunity for us at Waymo to experiment here in Europe, with different products and maybe even with different go-to-market strategies. It's possible we will take a very different approach here than we would in the U.S." Krafcik admitted that the Waymo brand wouldn't be as strong in Europe, where there are already bunch of well-established automakers. Brand recognition could make or break its business across the pond, so its European autonomous taxi service might not carry the Waymo name at all.

Fiat Chrysler Unveils Plan to Invest in Electric, Self-Driving Vehicles
If that works out as planned, the auto maker expects to double operating profit to €16 billion ($18.71 billion) by 2022 and hit double-digit profit margins from 6.8% today. Chief Executive Sergio Marchionne said the company will invest €9 billion to develop and deploy electric engines as it expands its lineup of electric-powered vehicles, part of a €45 billion spending plan over the next five years focused on four core brands: Jeep SUVs, Ram pickups and Alfa Romeo and Maserati luxury cars. "This plan will provide the portfolio of products aligned with our brands that will ensure our ability to comply in each region" with stricter emissions and fuel-economy standards, Mr. Marchionne told financial analysts and media at a meeting on a company test track located outside Milan. In the U.S., the company is expanding its bet on bigger SUVs and trucks, reflecting consumer demand and a more relaxed approach to increasing fuel economy standards in Washington. Mr. Marchionne chided his peers for appearing to back away from what he said was a unified request to President Donald Trump by auto industry leaders to ease fuel economy regulations.

Waymo may work with Honda on an autonomous delivery vehicle
Last week, Waymo announced a partnership to build autonomous Jaguar vehicles for its upcoming self-driving taxi service, which will augment its existing fleet of Chryslers. But today Bloomberg reported that the Alphabet company is nearing a deal with a third automaker, Honda, that may lead the pair to collaborate on an entirely new vehicle. The deal will reportedly boost Waymo's capacity in'delivery and logistics' rather than moving people, which its anticipated ride-sharing service had assumedly been focused on. While Waymo has been in talks with Honda since late 2016, this news came from Bloomberg's profile of John Krafcik, the Alphabet company's chief executive. Whether both companies' collaborative plans include making a wholly new vehicle is still speculative.
