AntiCheatPT: A Transformer-Based Approach to Cheat Detection in Competitive Computer Games
Loo, Mille Mei Zhen, Luzkov, Gert, Burelli, Paolo
Cheating in online video games compromises the integrity of gaming experiences. Anti-cheat systems, such as VAC (Valve Anti-Cheat), face significant challenges in keeping pace with evolving cheating methods without imposing invasive measures on users' systems. This paper presents AntiCheatPT\_256, a transformer-based machine learning model designed to detect cheating behaviour in Counter-Strike 2 using gameplay data. To support this, we introduce and publicly release CS2CD: A labelled dataset of 795 matches. Using this dataset, 90,707 context windows were created and subsequently augmented to address class imbalance. The transformer model, trained on these windows, achieved an accuracy of 89.17\% and an AUC of 93.36\% on an unaugmented test set. This approach emphasizes reproducibility and real-world applicability, offering a robust baseline for future research in data-driven cheat detection.

Identify As A Human Does: A Pathfinder of Next-Generation Anti-Cheat Framework for First-Person Shooter Games
Zhang, Jiayi, Sun, Chenxin, Gu, Yue, Zhang, Qingyu, Lin, Jiayi, Du, Xiaojiang, Qian, Chenxiong
The gaming industry has experienced substantial growth, but cheating in online games poses a significant threat to the integrity of the gaming experience. Cheating, particularly in first-person shooter (FPS) games, can lead to substantial losses for the game industry. Existing anti-cheat solutions have limitations, such as client-side hardware constraints, security risks, server-side unreliable methods, and both-sides suffer from a lack of comprehensive real-world datasets. To address these limitations, the paper proposes HAWK, a server-side FPS anti-cheat framework for the popular game CS:GO. HAWK utilizes machine learning techniques to mimic human experts' identification process, leverages novel multi-view features, and it is equipped with a well-defined workflow. The authors evaluate HAWK with the first large and real-world datasets containing multiple cheat types and cheating sophistication, and it exhibits promising efficiency and acceptable overheads, shorter ban times compared to the in-use anti-cheat, a significant reduction in manual labor, and the ability to capture cheaters who evaded official inspections.

Experts weigh in on whether Kamala Harris' 2024 election rally crowd photo was REALLY 'AI-doctored'
AI experts say the image of Kamala Harris' rally does show hallmarks of being heavily edited -- though this was probably done using basic filters rather than AI. Donald Trump caused a furor over the weekend after claiming the picture had been'A.I.'d' to boost the size of Harris' crowd in Michigan and exaggerate her popularity. The former president and some of his online supports pointed to the unusual lack of crowd reflection on the plane's turbine as evidence the image had been doctored. They concluded there was only a four percent chance it has been warped using the software. But it's possible the photo had been heavily filtered and edited, they said. And the plane's curved reflective surface also creates an illusion where objects above and below the surface are most visible and dominate the reflection, they added.

Five most exciting new changes coming in Apple's huge iPhone update - including controversial 'cheater's paradise' feature
Apple's new iOS update is just weeks away - and more details are starting to emerge about what is shaping up to be the biggest update yet. Originally announced at the company's annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June, the software is expected to hit devices in mid-September. Apple is touting its AI integration with iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia - called'Apple Intelligence' - as the update's flagship feature. The feature will bring a lot of change to the operating system, including new-and-improved Siri capabilities, the ability to create custom emojis, and more. But the change that made headlines most was a new app-hiding feature dubbed'cheater's paradise' because it allows people to conceal certain apps (like dating apps, for instance) in locked folders.

Red flags your partner is about to cheat, or is already having an affair - based on their cellphone habits
With the iOS 18 update coming this fall, it's like Apple had adulterers in mind. You can lock and even hide apps using your Face ID - a feature many have dubbed a'cheater's paradise.' I guarantee many coupled-up folks will'hide' dating apps or their preferred secret communication methods. Cheaters always find a way to sneak around, but not all are savvy enough to know about all the tech clues their wayward ways leave behind. Now, before we get to the clues… Snooping on someone's phone, computer or other tech never ends well.
Apple's new iOS 18 feature is being called 'a cheater's paradise'
Apple unveiled a new feature with its upcoming iOS 18 that has sparked controversy among users - with some saying it is'a cheater's paradise.' The new update will let uses hide or lock apps on their iPhone home screen, keeping their personal hobbies and information from prying eyes. While Apple touted it as keeping banking apps private and stopping kids from buying items on Amazon, many people see the feature as helping partners cheat easily. Social media erupted with posts about the new app, some calling it'sick' while others praised the new feature for letting them hide dating apps from their spouse. Apple unveiled a new feature with its upcoming iOS 18 that has sparked controversy among users - with some saying it is'a cheater's paradise' 'Users can now lock an app; and for additional privacy, they can hide an app, moving it to a locked, hidden apps folder,' Apple shared in an announcement following its Worldwide Developers Conference on Monday.
I get paid to catch cheaters.. here's my 'loyalty check' to see if YOUR partner is unfaithful
Many people have had suspicions that their partner was cheating, but have questioned whether those feelings had any weight or were just their minds playing tricks on them. A'love rat' investigator, who only works for women, has shared her'loyalty check' that she claims will uncover breadcrumbs that leads to catching an unfaithful man. The check includes certain apps on their phone, files on their computer and how they use Google search. 'If the guy has a history of being secretive, that answer is almost always'Yes,'' she told DailyMail.com. 'Based on his personality, his profile, and things like that, I will approach them in the way that I think will work the best.'

Human-in-the-Loop AI for Cheating Ring Detection
Shih, Yong-Siang, Liao, Manqian, Liu, Ruidong, Baig, Mirza Basim
Online exams have become popular in recent years due to their accessibility. However, some concerns have been raised about the security of the online exams, particularly in the context of professional cheating services aiding malicious test takers in passing exams, forming so-called "cheating rings". In this paper, we introduce a human-in-the-loop AI cheating ring detection system designed to detect and deter these cheating rings. We outline the underlying logic of this human-in-the-loop AI system, exploring its design principles tailored to achieve its objectives of detecting cheaters. Moreover, we illustrate the methodologies used to evaluate its performance and fairness, aiming to mitigate the unintended risks associated with the AI system. The design and development of the system adhere to Responsible AI (RAI) standards, ensuring that ethical considerations are integrated throughout the entire development process.
Call of Duty: Warzone will now snip the parachutes of cheaters so they 'splat'
The Call of Duty devs are always trying to stay one step ahead of cheaters to protect the experience for all of us regular non-jerky players. Their latest move to prevent cheating may just be the funniest one yet. The devs have announced an appropriately-named feature called Splat. When a cheater deploys, the system occasionally disables their parachute, sending them careening to the ground until they, well, go splat. This was designed to call as much attention to the cheater as possible, with devs saying it'll be "immediately obvious" who's trying to game the system, as someone quickly descending from the sky is hard to miss.
Wordle: A Microcosm of Life. Luck, Skill, Cheating, Loyalty, and Influence!
Wordle is a popular, online word game offered by the New York Times (nytimes.com). Currently there are some 2 million players of the English version worldwide. Players have 6 attempts to guess the daily word (target word) and after each attempt, the player receives color-coded information about the correctness and position of each letter in the guess. After either a successful completion of the puzzle or the final unsuccessful attempt, software can assess the player's luck and skill using Information Theory and can display data for the first, second, ..., sixth guesses of a random sample of all players. Recently, I discovered that the latter data is presented in a format that can easily be copied and pasted into a spreadsheet. I compiled data on Wordle players' first guesses from May 2023 - August 2023 and inferred some interesting information about Wordle players. A) Every day, about 0.2-0.5% of players solve the puzzle in one attempt. Because the odds of guessing the one of 2,315 possible target words at random is 0.043%, this implies that 4,000 - 10,000 players cheat by obtaining the target word outside of playing the game! B) At least 1/3 of the players have a favorite starting word, or cycle through several. And even though players should be aware that target words are never repeated, most players appear to remain loyal to their starting word even after its appearance as a target word. C) On August 15, 2023, about 30,000 players abruptly changed their starting word, presumably based on a crossword puzzle clue! Wordle players can be influenced! This study goes beyond social media postings, surveys, and Google Trends to provide solid, quantitative evidence about cheating in Wordle.
