'She Has a Presence': The 'Melania' Superfans Who Turned Up for Opening Weekend
'She Has a Presence': The Superfans Who Turned Up for Opening Weekend WIRED attended two documentary screening parties--one on each coast--for the First Lady's film. For decades now, people have been wondering: Who is Melania Trump? The First Lady opens her 2024 memoir with a story about leaving her family in Slovenia to immigrate to America as a 26-year-old model. Ten years later, she became an American citizen. "It was not an easy process," she writes. "And my personal experience dealing with the trials of the immigration process opened my eyes to the difficulties faced by all who wish to become US citizens." OK, but what does that mean, exactly? Her husband, in both his terms as president, put harshly enforcing immigration policy at the center of his domestic agenda. This is all to say that I was authentically excited to see, the documentary that Amazon paid $40 million to acquire and $35 million to market. The director, Brett Ratner, previously accused of sexual misconduct by six different women, is currently in the news thanks to his appearance in a photo included in the most recent dump of Epstein files. What is Melania like behind closed doors?

AI's biggest impact: Which sectors have benefited most as job security remains a vital concern
More than a year has passed since the public first gained access to OpenAI's ChatGPT, giving various industries the chance to experiment with artificial intelligence (AI) and a sense of the transformational potential -- or lack of it. "Any industry that has large amounts of data that needs to be indexed and processed quickly is ripe for AI integration," Reema Khan, founder and CEO at Green Sands Equity, told Fox News Digital. "In technology for example, writing thousands of lines of code is much easier to do with an AI co-pilot and can do ten times a software engineer's productivity." The U.S. economy added over 353,000 jobs in January 2024, but the tech sector continues to suffer significant layoffs. Google laid off several hundred employees from its sales and advertising teams in the same month as part of multiple rounds of cost-cutting measures.

AI to have biggest impact on fintech development over next five years
Artificial intelligence (AI) technology will have the biggest impact on fintech development over the next five years, according to a survey of 80 fintechs by Tribe Payments, which analysed the use of five emerging technologies: application programming interfaces (APIs), AI, blockchain, low code and edge computing. Alex Reddish, chief commercial officer at the firm, said the report offers insight into the technologies from those closest fintechs and suggests next steps for those that don't want to be left behind. The survey found that 67% of fintechs believe AI will be the emerging technology that has the biggest impact on the sector over the next five years. Daragh Morrissey, director of AI at Microsoft Worldwide Financial Services, said fintechs have the potential to keep leading on AI. "Some incumbents have admitted to being scared by the potential of fintechs, and they should be," he said. "Smaller companies have the advantage when it comes building sophisticated AI. Without legacy technology to deal with, fintechs simply don't have to revolutionise how they work to start implementing AI."

Automating Data Collection For AI At Morningstar
One of the biggest challenges in making AI projects a success is dealing with the requirements for data needed by machine learning systems. Machine learning systems work by generalizing learnings from data, so if that data is insufficient in quantity or poor in quality, then the machine learning project will fail. Nothing is more true for artificial intelligence than the tech adage, "garbage in is garbage out". Shariq Ahmad, head of technology in the data collection group at financial services data firm Morningstar knows this very well. As part of his role at Morningstar, he is responsible for building a pipeline and methodology for dealing with large quantities of data in a wide variety of formats, qualities, and levels of completeness and accuracy to support big data projects, including those that support their machine learning efforts.
